Re: Connecting sky box to benq w100?

well my sky+ box has a svideo connection but the 10m length takes its toll and picture quality is poor, tried scarting it to my dvd recorder and then connecting dvd recorder via component with watchable results but still not great, DVD player has hdmi converted to dvi-d and picture is crystal clear.
just recieved my sky HD box and connected hdmi to dvi lead the one i use for dvd player, I can get the welcoming screen but nothing else including the menu/guide etc just a black screen.
incidentally my dvd player and dvd recorder are separate,
pity the hdmi didnt work but i dont really want to get in the habit on watching sky via projector.....but it could of been fun!

thanks for the replys

the picture quality from the xbox 360 is great on the projector i also use the 360 as the dvd player and i am happy with the quality but have noticed a bit of graining on light backgrounds while watching a dvd but not sure if its the way i have the settings, im new to all this so i need to have a bit more of a play with the settings and see what happens its basically set up as it was out of the box atm.

I've got my hd box connected to pj with 30ft of component, once you have seen hd sports and movies (even bbc hd) on benq, be warned there is no going back! I have my dvd player connected to benq via hdmi - dvi d and find that if I switch to component inputs I cannot go back to dvi without switching dvd player on and off again.

Re: Connecting sky box to benq w100?

I don't have sky but I do have a Manhattan freesat box which outputs s-video. This is feed by a short lead to my amp and then via a 10m s-video to my W100 and the picture is fine. So I guess it must be the quality of the Sky box.

I am quite sure the grain is from the Xbox DVD player. I have done a few side by side tests with my kit, and the Xbox DVD player does not compare well to my standalone Pioneer box for clarity. I don't know why, the images produced by games are pixel perfect, same with downloaded video, so it must be something in the decryption of the dvds that introduces the grain.

I noticed a massive improvement in the xbox DVD output when I used a high quality VGA lead instead of the provided HDTV-RGB. For some reason the Xbox does not upscale DVD content over RGB, yet you can go upto 1080p using VGA?

I guess by upscaling it a lot and then downscaling it, the odd noisey pixel is distorted enough that it looks smooth again

My cable was 15 quid and they threw in a free optical connection for the audio too, so I was more than happy to try it out, and now I tend to just let the xbox do everything.
