HD Confusion

Ok, i have an Epson TW20. It is HD Compatable but it isnt HD Ready. I read somewhere that it doesnt get the HD Ready classification because it doesnt support 720p and doesnt have a HDMI port. However, i use my XBox 360 to watch my DVD's, when i play games it says it is using the basic 480p. (The Epson goes upto 525i or something) My question is...if i buy a HD DVD player to whack into my Epson...will it actually work??!!

Im totally confuddled here...

P.S heres the specs from the Epson Site:

Component Input
Display Performance: 525i : 480Lines, 625i : 480Lines
Input Signal: Video Standard: 525i / 625i / 525P / 625P YCbCr 750P / 1125i YPbPr; Video Signal: Component Video (Analog Y level 0.7V 75 ohm/ Cr Cb level +/-0.35V 75 ohm / sync.negative 0.3V or 3-state+/-0.3V on Y) Audio Signal: 500 mVrms / 47 k-ohm
Input Terminal: Video: RCA x 3 (Red / Green / Blue); Audio: RCA x 2 (in common with Analog RGB)

It should connect via component but you will not get all the advantages HD DVD offers due to the native res of the PJ. Even so you should see an improvment due to improved codec meaning less compression artefacts. BTW over component DVD with copy protection will not be upscaled and will be ouput at basic res. The 480/625 refers to NTSC 60hz/PAL 50hz and providing the PJ will accept all the res in the specs at 60hz it should work (In theory).

IIRC HD "compatible" means it will accept a HD res signal but does not support HDMI or HDCP.

Re: HD Confusion

If it accepts the HD signal at 720 or even 1080. The picture will be downscaled to the 480 of the PJ. The picture will still look better than SD quality due to better resolution of the source and also higher bitrates.
