Can Anyone Compare the JVC HD-1 to the Panasonic PTAE1000?
Costco USA has just started carrying the Panasonic PTAE1000 at a very good price that when combined with Panasonic's $400 USD rebate makes the difference between it and the HD-1 about $1200 USD or more. Is it worth it in your opinion?
If I've violated any of your rules then apologies in advance! Thanks

Re: Can Anyone Compare the JVC HD-1 to the Panasonic PTAE1000?
I have not seen an HD1 as there are not many around at the moment. I recently paid under £2k for my Panny but the JVC HD1 is holding between £3.8 to 4k. So I would estimate there should be quite a performance difference. The only thing I would say is the Panny is an excellent projector for almost half the price of an HD1. I would be interested in the differences from a laymans perspective as against a scientific view. In other words a picture to picture comparison. I am not into bashing one make against another just to know where my particular equipment is against the generally accepted current best projector for the money? These improvements only bode well for future developments long may they continue.

Re: Can Anyone Compare the JVC HD-1 to the Panasonic PTAE1000?
I think everyone would expect the JVC to be significantly better, but then not everyone wants to spend that much. I can quite understand someone buying a Panasonic. Compared with what we have had to live with (in the UK at least) in recent years, the performance / price ratio is still astounding.

Is it still the case that LCD dont produce any were nere the black levels of DLP projectors ??
I no it was the case when I was looking at buying the HD72 vs the Hitachi PJTX200.

Re: Can Anyone Compare the JVC HD-1 to the Panasonic PTAE1000?
Nick, I also expect it to be better but as the envelope is pushed on contrast and internal video processing I was wondering if the JVC is just a little better or a huge improvement from an average user's perspective not that of a super high end, super critical viewer.
I'm still using a 3 1/2 year old, single chip DLP projector (Mustang 2 version) on a 128" dalite hi-power screen, and while ready to upgrade am still quite pleased with my PJ.
I'd expect either of these PJs to be an improvement but I tend to keep mine for a few years rather than constantly upgrading to the latest, greatest and wonder if the JVC is that much better than the Panny.

Too right.
Both projectors look ace based upon the descriptions on this forum. The question is whether the JVC is worth close on twice as much to buy.
Anyone got any further thoughts?

This will ultimately depend on the requirements and values of each purchaser. I haven't had opportunity to demo the Panasonic but having lived with a Sony Pearl I can say that the HD1 delivers a significant improvement in my HT.
I guess if you have the budget that covers either the only way to answer the question is to demo them thoroughly and then decide.

AVI,
You won't want to come to Ontario right now. It's -12 degrees Celcius with a windchill factor of -29 where I live.
I need a nice hot projector to warm me up.

If anyone has spent some quality time with both these units, I would also love to hear some thoughts/opinions comparing the 2 and how much difference there is.

Me to
....and would also like to know that the HD1 can take a 1080p signal from a PC for SD-DVD's via DVI D to HDMI with no problems.
.....and 1080p signal from xbox addon via VGA
Your experiences in the above will be MOST welcome
Index Fingers been hovering over the buy button for a while, but £4 Grand purchase for HD1 is not done lightly.
Thanks

Home Cinema Choice give the JVC a fantastic review saying the only possible drawback with it is its size!... Just how big is it? Definitely not a rear shelf kind of projector?
