Smile Hitachi PJTX300 LCD Projector Owners Club

As suggested in another thread, here's a 'Tweakers' thread for the PJTX300 owners, similar to the other thread for the TX200.

I'm currently running the 'Vladman' settings (Cheers VLADMAN!) on my PJTX300 lifted from the PJTX200 thread. I'm projecting onto a MMUK AVforums DIY Blend painted wall, and almost always view in a dark room.

I'm using a Xbox360 for source, and a Cambridge Audio Azur V2 reciever for processing.

Looking forward to seeing other tweaks. On the whole i'm very happy with my TX300, very quiet even when not in whisper mode, simple to use and a great image. I currently have about a 100" diagonal on maximum zoom setting with no noticable image problems. Did have a bit of a flicker at 80 hours but it seems to have disappeared now, i'm at 110 hours lamp life now.

PJTX200 Thread-
Hitachi PJTX200 LCD Projector Owners Club

MMUK Thread-
PAINTS, Brews and Mixes II

The VLADMAN settings i have used, would like a bit more black but for now its cool-

Colour Temp:
Use 7500K as reference, then set:
Low RGB: +1, +2, +3
Mid RGB: -4, +2, 0
High RGB: 0, +1, -5
Gamma:
Use standard as reference, then set:
1: +1
2: +2
3: +3
4: +2
5: 0
6: -3
7: -3
8: -4
9:-3
Black:
Auto1
Iris:
3
Sharpness:
5

Thanks

Matt

Re: Hitachi PJTX300 LCD Projector Owners Club

Hi,

put me down as a member of the club. I think I use settings close to VLADMAN's (will have to confirm), but I switched the Auto iris off as I noticed the brightness going up and down. However for a few movies I switched it on and it helped improve the image.

Anyway I'll post my set-up in more detail once I have a bit more time, but let's get the thread rolling!!!

It's an owl white screen.

It came second hand with my old Seleco CRT projector.

No idea what 'gain' it offers.

Re: Hitachi PJTX300 LCD Projector Owners Club

What a great club to belong to! I'm using the same settings as the op apart from turning the colour level to +2, iris +5 and the sharpness to +6. Brightness and contrast at +3 and +10. Running an xbox 360 through it and below that i didnt think it was quite gamey enough but now its spot on! Also using the 80 inch free hitachi screen.
Unfortunately I'm only at 500 hrs but I have some dust blobs visible so at some point soon its all going to come apart for cleaning...

Interesting. I might look at creating a new setting for my X-Box too.

I sat down and read the handbook again last night, and I spotted something that I'd missed first time around.

"The best picture quality is generally achieved when the lens shift is set to the centre. Each lens shift dial clicks into place when set to the centre"

My PJ is ceiling mounted, but re-centering the horizontal lens shift was easy enough. I was able to dial back to the centre point and then adjusted my ceiling mount accordingly (it allows me to move to the left and right).

Re-centering the vertical lens shift is a bit more problematic. For starters I cannot feel the dial click into place. It was obvious when adjusting the horizontal (I even heard it click in), but I can't detect anything with the vertical.

In the end I turned the dial all the way in one direction, and then counted the full number of turns needed to reach the limit in the other direction. Dived the number of turns by two, and hey-presto... my PJ now beams a lovely picture into the middle of my ceiling

Re: Hitachi PJTX300 LCD Projector Owners Club

I've decided that lowering the PJ (so that no adjustment of vertical lens shift is required), is a bad idea. I'm just going to live with it.

Anyway, I had a play with focus this afternoon, and would recommend the following as I found it makes a difference.

I dialed sharpness down to zero, and reset the focus based on a projected image (I used the sharpness pattern on my DVE disc) rather then the PJs menu.

When the focus looked sharp, I turned the sharpness back up to its normal setting. Picture definately looks sharper.

If you've got any of the Star Wars dvds, you could use one of the THX patterns.

I'm confused mate, what output connections are you getting from your dvd and digibox? Component (Red/Green/Blue Plugs) or Composite (Yellow/Red/White Plugs?

Re: Hitachi PJTX300 LCD Projector Owners Club

I'm confused too.

Are you saying that your DVD player only has Scart Out?

And because the TX300 doesn't have Scart In, you are using a connector to turn Scart Out (from your DVD) into Component In (red, green and blue into the projector)?

If so, I'm not sure that the connector that comes with TX300 will do the job (I'm not sure because I can't find mine!).

From memory, I thought the connector that came with TX300 only converts Scart Out into Left Audio, Right Audio and Video (yellow composite).

Like I say, I can't find my connector so I may be wrong.

While I think of it, the projector may not have even come with the connector I'm thinking of. I bought a lot of new kit at the same time, and maybe I'm getting myself confused (not unheard of!).

80" 16:9 pulldown branded Hitachi, decent quality for most people i would say. Only downside is unless your ceilings are extremely low you will need to wall mount it as the top border is only about 4 inches.

Find the cheapest online and in stock from a Uk retailer and then ask Richer to pricematch, In my experience they rarely say no.

Re: Hitachi PJTX300 LCD Projector Owners Club

i got mine with the free hitachi screen from crampton & moore for £852 including delivery which arrived really quickly.

ive wall hung mine using two 'L brackets' you know the ones used for putting up shelves. ive screwed them to the wall upside down then bolted the screen onto them. cost me about £5 for the bits from a hardware shop.it works ideal for me as the screen is now 6" away from the wall which is just enough clearance to come down in front of my wall hung LCD.

this might come in handy, i needed to wall mount my projector so i bought one of the brackets for wall mounting a portable tv. i got it from argos. you need the one for a 21" tv for the plate to be the right size.the arm is hinged so you can position the pj where you want.

Re: Hitachi PJTX300 LCD Projector Owners Club

Hello!

Another member! Also using VLADMAN's settings, with the free screen (RGBDirect.co.uk - £835 with free delivery). Utterly thrilled to bits, even when using a £20 10m component lead from Sapphire to my Philips DVD player and Virgin V+HD box. Bought the cheap ceiling mount from the 'bay and so far so good!

Still got a bit of a ripple in the screen - hoped it would go away after a week or so. Still there The screen is perfectly level and to be honest we never roll it up. Also, often forget to put the lens cap on after viewing - is this really an issue?

Gotta love Wii Sports on an 80" screen!!

Pretty sure these settings apply to all inputs

I imagine the issue is that the lens will be more suseptable to dust so may require cleaning more often with the cap off, if you happy cleaning it i can't see it being that much of a problem though.

Re: Hitachi PJTX300 LCD Projector Owners Club

Hi all just got my first pj and its the pj-tx300 so far I am more than happy with it but my only complaint is that the screen it came with doesn’t seem to good, I got a free Hitachi 80" screen but I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction of a 80" screen that is good value for money and would compliment this projector. if poss I would prefer a motorised screen but if that’s not possible without spending silly amounts then I can live without.
I have taken some pics of how it looks now (click on the links below to veiw)and I would be more then happy to post the settings I am using if anyone is interested.
Cheers wh1tey

Re: Hitachi PJTX300 LCD Projector Owners Club

Hi another TX300 here

I picked it up from RS a couple of weeks before Xmas, After getting the Xbox addon. Very pleased with it still 250Hrs on the clock now..

I've got the Xbox or PC via VGA, SD DVD via HDMI, TV via Component and they all look great HD-DVD's via the Xbox are superb!!! Using the 80" Hitachi screen with it.

Still waiting on the HD-DVD DVE disc I ordered from HMV decades ago.... So still playing around with the settings every now and again I will try those ones posted out.

Re: Hitachi PJTX300 LCD Projector Owners Club

I was just thinking that I might get a better picture especially Blacks if I was to use a powder glass coated screen as it is more of a grey colour rather than a reflective white vinyl screen like the Hitachi.
If anyone can recommend where the best place to purchase a screen from let me know and ill look them up.
