Re: best connections for best picture

Is it Sky+ or normal Sky box? What projector do you have?

Generally speaking in order of preference (excluing HDMI as only SkyHD has that output) I would say...

Component (Red, Green + Blue phono connectors or possibly through a SCART connector as long as it is RGB enabled)

S-Video (4-pin round connector)

Composite (simple 2 way yellow phono connector)

Occasionally a projector will take component video, but only through a VGA port, commonly a 15-pin D-sub like the output ports on a PC. In this case you will need a cable that has the three RCA jacks on one end for the DVD player, and a 15-pin D-sub VGA connector on the other.

I have found s-vid to be fine for sky (nonHD) avoid composite (single yellow plugged cable) like the plague

Re: best connections for best picture

If your projector has a SCART input then I would definitely use that. You have 2 SCART outputs on your Sky+ box but it's commonplace that only one of them is fully RGB enabled so you need to use the right one (it's usually SCART1 rather than SCART2).

Alternatively go for the S-Video as I know Sky+ has that output. Not quite as good as component but still a hell of a lot better then composite which tends to exhibit bad dot creep on PJ's

...unless he has a SCART input on the PJ, in which case just take it in direct.
