hd70 flicker

I wonder if anyone can help, I've had the Themescene Optoma HD70 for a few weeks now, usually everything is fine, but suddenly it can start to flicker quite badly. It seems to be at random intervals, sometimes after the unit has been on for a while, other times when its first switched on.
I have it hooked up to my PC through an HDMI cable.
At first I thought it may be the graphics card, but when it started to flicker really badly earlier, I changed the source and noticed it was still flickering when looking for another source (when it has the blue screen).
I guess this eliminates the PC from being the problem.
I noticed in the manual (troubleshooting section) it says you can change the tracking (page 31) in the "signal" part of the setup. My setup menu does not have this Signal function!! It just has Language and Projection. The screenshot in the manual has a Signal option after those options.

If anyone has any ideas I would be greatfull. I have a nasty feeling my HD70 is already on its way out, after only 3 or 4 weeks use

Re: hd70 flicker

I had bad flicker when using Vista Media Center (PC, VGA cable) and I fixed it by changing the refresh rate. You say you are having it on the blue "finding source" screen also? Have you tried the re-sync button on the remote?

If it is bust, Optoma are one of the better manufacturers for replacing/fixing faulty equipment (from what I have read on the forum)

Re: hd70 flicker

Many thanks for the reply. I havnt tried the re-sync button on the remote, I'll give that a try when I get home from work. Hopefully that will take care of the problem. If not I think I'm out of options, and will have to contact Optoma.

Thanks again

Re: hd70 flicker

You can also try the signal menu option for Frequency and tracking.
I do not know if this option is in the HD70. I have the H27, the little brother of HD70 and tracking normally takes care of that.

I would think changing sources does the same thing as re-sync. Can you describe the flicker more? Is it a change in luminosity, do you see pixel patterns on a solid white background? Or does the frame/image slip or shift around?

I ask because, if I run my HD72i in low power mode every now and then the luminosity will flicker, created what looked like live pixels on a solid white background. Its the arc on the lamp moving around, I just run bright mode and burn it for awhile and it goes away. Oh and recently I had what looked like a white surge or very fast flash on white text pages. My graphics card 6600GT, died. I changed to a 7600GT and updated the drivers and its gone.

Re: hd70 flicker

Well sometimes I switch to VGA and it has horizontal blurring and the image is shifted left an inch, so I re-sync and it's fine. Never had this with component or s-vid. Worth a go anyways

"a white surge or very fast flash on white text pages" is what it does pretty much, although yesterday it got so bad I noticed it while watching a movie.
It's a change in luminosity, the picture itself is fine, it just flickers.
Alot of what Mrmoo is describing sounds familiar, but I eliminated my graphics card from my investigations when I changed the source and it still did it on the blue screen.

"You can also try the signal menu option for Frequency and tracking."
Unfortunately I dont have this menu, although it has in in the manual, with a screenshot, the signal menu on my HD70 is missing !

I wondered if the bulb may be on its way out, although its only had about 50 hours on it so far. I have heard of them going early on sometimes. Fingers crossed it isn't.
