PJ Newbie - what do I need?

Hi folks,

I've never dabbled in the world of projectors before, but I've been offered a good deal on a Panasonic HD jobbie and I fancy having a go with it.

My current setup is using a Panasonic TX32LXD52 HD LCD panel with XBOX360 for general TV, DVD and games.

My wall-wall distance is approximately 10 feet or so (give or take a foot) with a bare painted plaster wall above the TV - I was hoping to project onto the space above the TV, as I've got recliner sofas that give a comfy line of sight angle up to there.

I'm assuming I'll need a screen of some sort as well, although I've heard mixed reviews about projecting onto a bare wall in terms of colour quality and reflectivity?

What sort of cabling will I need to connect to my 360 - is it a special MS cable, or can you get component-component extenders?

Sorry in advance for the newbieness of this post!

Cheers,

Dan

Re: PJ Newbie - what do I need?

Which model projector is it?

Most of them have common HD Inputs so going from the XBOX 360 to the projector shouldnt be a problem at all.

Dont forget a projector doesnt manage sound for you so you will need an amp or something.

Another nice option is to to get a screen and mount it to the ceiling (most have simple hoops on the casing to allow this) so that it drops down in front of the LCD TV so you have the best of both worlds.

Looking up at a picture will reduce the imersion you get from a big pic, I know because I have one in the bedroom and look up at that when laid flat in bed. Its still good tho :D If the screen is eye level then you will feel much more in there with the action when it starts flying at the screen.

Re: PJ Newbie - what do I need?

Thanks Anim,

It's a PTAE900 - are they any good?

I hadn't even considered a screen that'd come down in front of the TV, I might have to look into that - top idea

Cheers,

Dan

Re: PJ Newbie - what do I need?

When I play 360 I can play for hours on end, would most projectors cope with that length of use okay?

The AE900 is a great pj, I have one running my 360 and ps3 and its just awsome, get a big 2m screen and sit back and have fun!!!

Put pgr3 on and have it on the cockpit view and its lifesize pretty much, just awsome.

Re: PJ Newbie - what do I need?

Excellent cheers guys - it's only got about 20 hours of use on it, and I'll be looking at about £300 or so so it looks like a pretty decent deal

Any recommendations on a half decent screen for a good price? And cables for my 360?

Re: PJ Newbie - what do I need?

300 quid is a steal, snap it up pronto!!!

360 will plug straight in the component ports on the back of the 900, you will need to route the 360's sound via an amp though.
