| Re: Top ten projector films
[QUOTE=maddogmc;4334730]A little off topic but the "best DVDs" are pretty well covered...
I was glad to see someone mention "Battle of Britain", loved that movie! The transfer was excellent for a film of that age. I hope the original is in good enough condition to allow a HD transfer. Hopefully, they will spend some time on the sound track and add some surround effects as well as expand the dynamic range.
Another old war flick I want to see on HD is "Tora! Tora! Tora!". "Lawrence of Arabia" deserves a great transfer also.
Ummm, unless I have mis-understood the above, Battle Of Britain was re-released 2 years ago fully re-mastered but more importantly also in DTS. The surround sound is excellent and I use the first 5 mins of the film as a taster to whet people's appetites when they ask "What's it like watching a projector?" type questions. Also worth checking out on this film is the bit two thirds of the way through where Ian MacShane goes to London to trackj down his family in a night time blitz. You need darkness and bright elements all at the same time. A good test for a pj and remember "They got the Rose and Crown!"
Other films that have been re-mastered etc include A Bridge Too Far and I'm pretty sure that if it hasn't been released this month, it soon will be and that is Tora! Tora!Tora!. I saw this at the cinema when it was released. The gimmick was that Sensoround! The seats really did vibrate when the planes were taking off! Try hmv.co.uk and click onto the war section within their dvd range for more info on other films info.
For what it's worth, having had a pj now for 3 months, I really do love watching films on it. Here are my suggestions. Where Eagles Dare now Ģ5.99 has also had the 5.1 treatment but the pq was great...loads of mountains and snow are made for the big screen! Cars now on dvd, also really impressed. Pixar have really done a great job with the colour backgound especially with the scenery that surrounds the town on Route 66. The racing scenes should blow you away. I suppose that if my step-mum can say, at the end of this film, that she was hoping the 2 cars would fall in love then the PJ really has done what it is supposed to do!
Batman Begins This is also a reference point to check out all the blacks especially during the first few minutes of the film. Band Of Brothers. I have only watched oned episode so far on PJ (episode 2...the DDay Landing and first skirmishes for the 101st). You felt you were actually there as the PQ on the pj drew you into the action.
