Blue/Purple Spotting

Hello,

I have a NEC 1050MT projector. I have noticed some blue/purple spotting on the picture. I tried cleaning the inside with compressed air, and it did not help. I do not know if this is a sign of the lamp needing to be replaced or if infact it is dust. Is the lens itself a sealed unit? Is there a certain procedure to follow in order to properly clean it from the inside? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank-you

Re: Blue/Purple Spotting

Hey I have a Sony VPL-CX5, and am having the same problem, if you set the focus so its off completely you can clearly see the problem is dust on the lense.

I also tried taking it all apart but it started to get a bit delicate and I couldnt see any clear access to the lense.

Is this a job that can be done at home, or will I need to take it to a professional?

Re: Blue/Purple Spotting

Sounds indentical to my problem. I have taken the lamp out, and sprayed compressed air into the direction of the lens and this did not solve the problem. I guess I will completely remove the casing, and try cleaning it more thourough. I just dont know if we are able to clean the lens if the dust is inside of it.

Re: Blue/Purple Spotting

If yours is anything like mine getting to the lens will be a bit of an issue, once I'd removed the casing, there was a motherboard which was screwed, and connected to bits and pieces with tiny ribbon cables all around the PCB, then under that there were plastic tunnels containing the lenses, but I couldn't see a way through.

Good luck with yours though.

Re: Blue/Purple Spotting

Hello!

The problem with the blue/purple spots is not on the lense. There must be vary much dust on the lense to affect the image.

The spots are originated from dust on the LCD panel, polarization glass and optical filters betweed LCD panels and prism block.

I have serviced many projectors that have dirt/dust on LCD panels.

You can try to focus on the LCD panels by adjusting focus of the projector. If the spots appear when the image is not in focus, the problem is on the LCD panels. (I hope you understand the difficult explanation).

Re: Blue/Purple Spotting

PROBLEM SOLVED

Well, I decided to take my unit apart. (Nec 1050mt)

Inside, after removing a couple of circuit boards, I found all of the interenal colour lenses. Along with cleaning them(they were all very dusty) there are also 2 internal air filters which were clogged with dust. Fairly delicate procedure, but it fixed the problem 100 percent.
