Remember though this is supplied via Amazon by PurelyGadgets. IIRC they import their products from within Europe.

I would go for it. Even in Europe the cheapest list price is currently 4500 Euro

That's about £400 cheaper than the price on the purelygadgets website - do you think they might have made a faux pas?

Here we go again, it's exactly the same product but manufacturers and distributers will sometimes not honour warranties which is criminal in my opinion.

Does that actually matter?

If you legitimatly buy a product in the UK from a big UK supplier and it's faulty, are you not covered by the UK sales of goods act?

You should not have to be expected as a consumer to have to investigate where the UK company bought it's good from origionally.
That's their "internal" business, and nothing for the consumer to worry about.

yes/no?

Legitimate points, well made.

The caveat that I posted up above was just for info and it would be very interesting to see Amazon's stance over any warranty issues should they arise. The fact that it is "supplied by PurelyGadgets" may provide them a loophole to wriggle out of.

The sale of goods act puts the onus on the seller, but each seller with a faulty UK product would receive a rebate from the manufacturer. Do you think Panasonic UK would give a rebate to a seller of a grey import?

I would say no, correct me if I am wrong, but it shouldn't be like that there should be full back up service not only for buyer but for seller too.

In saying that if the UK products were sold for same cash as EU spec models then there is no 'grey import' argument.

Grey imports are cheaper from EU due to pricing/currency/demographic and because its EU there is no Customs

Just to clarify the situation with PurelyGadgets, here's a link to there "About Us" page; http://www.purelygadgets.co.uk/aboutus.php

I wouldn't be to hopeful of a quick turnaround if a fault did occur.

Why, because of the "in house 18 month extended warranty"?

Assuming this was a UK sourced Panasonic then the manufacturer would only give 12 months. There may be an extension to this on release not sure.

The remaining 6 months would be seller only and I suspect not as generous as one thinks.

The important ommission for me from their statement is that it does not mention anything about official UK warranty. This would then suggest that if they couldn't fix it "in-house" it would have to be sent away, not necessarily to Panasonic UK either.

The Pj's supplied by Purely Gadgets are definitely not UK models. Whether or not you consider this a problem is up to you.

on their website it says all things sold on their website is UK stock, so if it isnt UK stock you could have them for false advertising

hmm then again reading it closely in poorly written English it does say UK spec yet imported, so maybe its like importing a car where they do any modifications needed to bring it to UK standard

Wow nice projector.

Just out of interest, what is the pic quality like when watching a HD-DVD on a projector? Is it just as amazing as watching it on a HD TV?

Damn mortgage!

I don't believe in most cases that there is any UK or European model. They are all the same & often ship with both a UK plug & a another for every other country in Europe. Of course there are no Customs duties if you buy from Europe or from someone who imports from Europe. The Customs duties were paid when the projector entered the EU, it's irrelevant which EU member state.

It was my understanding that all manufacturers were obliged to offer EU wide warranties now in any case. It's all part of the single market. At least the last few bits of electronic kit that I have bought have details of warranty & service centres throughout Europe.

If that's the case I would be surprised but would definately be a step forward for us in the UK

This is an interesting thread especially when it comes to Europe and UK.
Maybe some people do not like it but the UK is part of the EU. You did not join the Euro as common currency although it is more and more accepted and I think for good reason but still you are part of the EU.
Actually there is a price tag for sticking to the British Pound: Premium prices for everything

Any way no one in this country ever voted for Europe with a parliment it was touted as the 'common market' just a trading org.

Yes, it would be UK spec (as stated on their website) however it isn't an official UK product.

If you are thinking of spending anything over a grand for a projector,d emo the RS1. EXTREMELY good value for money, it is honestly not worth touching anything else unless you are buying something like a HD70 for £600. Just demo it, find the extra grand and a half, you won't want to upgrade this for a long time.

Re: PT-AE1000 £1,969.95 @ Amazon

I have now seen a UK business seller on ebay offering this for £1850, i have checked sellers in the US and they all seem to be offering the unit for $3600 after a $400 rebate which is near enough the same price. I have also looked at the AX100 just to see how US prices compare to the UK and they are pretty much the same at around £900, So why are some sellers in UK charging £3500 for the AE1000? are they charging full whack for the product because it is new to the market? it would seem so.

Care to name where? Or does it show up on the price comparison websites eg pricerunner?

I have also looked at the AX100 just to see how US prices compare to the UK and they are pretty much the same at around £900, So why are some sellers in UK charging £3500 for the AE1000? are they charging full whack for the product because it is new to the market? it would seem so.
No UK retailer could possibly buy from Panasonic UK and do those prices. All the really low prices on this model are from outside the EU. Essentially the customer is left to deal with the Retailer not MFR as a last resort in any warranty dispute.

What happens with a pixel fault? Who's spec? If the retailer is the sole arbiter of quality there may be a problem.

Similarly the issue of whether a retailer could fix something as complicated as one of these models without assistance from Panasonic is very real. Panasonic would not help them I'm sure unless it's an EU model.

All questions that will be answered in the fullness of time I suppose!

I would be quite irate if i'd bought from the PurelyGadgets website to discover they sell through Amazon at £400 cheaper!

In the worst case scenario, claim through your house insurance :P
