Any one know if they still plan on releasing it this month?

I've been in contact with the guy who's company is making it and am arranging a bulk discount for Forum members. I'll be posting as and when discussions are concluded and if Spectre agrees the Power Buy.

Hi Ad,

This is the Link for it.

Its basically a calibration DVD that allows you to setup your Sound and Picture for best performance. I have never used one myself, but from what I have been told, this one will support Pal.

Hope this helps

Regards
Amelia

Yes - but I would be surprised if it's as good as AVIA.

Put me down for a copy though .

Another calibration disc, allowing you to set up picture (brightness, contrast, colour etc), as well as sound levels.

Other such discs include Video Essentials (rumoured to have a new version coming), Ultimate DVD Platinum, plus Avia as already mentioned. All so far have been NTSC discs, hence the interest in The Calibrator.
How much difference PAL will make is another question - particularly for projectors - anyone care to comment?

I now have the phone number and email address of the main guy at Dahlstrom Media and have been trying to contact him on and off for the past week.

Will keep trying and let you know what happens. This was his response to my email asking about a possible power buy discount:

"Hello Julian! I´m sure we can sort something out.
Please call me and we can discuss the matter"

So, it looks hopeful. More news when I get it.

Personally go with Avia teh PAL/NTSC thing is easily got round : just use PAL60 if its a composite or s-video feed you are using.

Well, this is a good point. What IS the benefit of a PAL disc, rather than NTSC. I'm sure most devices we are likely to set up are capable of displaying an NTSC signal, or are being fed with RGB. Now I know that NTSC has Tint and Hue settings (or something similar - am I right?), which aren't applicable for PAL, so are there any settings only applicable to PAL that we are missing out on?

Haven't heard of this one. Is it one of Arnie's films?

The Calibrator from "I'll be Back DVDs"

I have never used any calibration discs yet, so I really don't know too much about them. I guess from my point of view, if 99% of the DVDs I use are going to be PAL, then I would prefer to calibrate my system with a PAL Calibration DVD.

Then again, the way things are going with The Calibrator, I could be waiting some time

Best Regards
Amelia

Hi Richard

I think I am also leaning towards Avia. I'm not sure if we can get it here. None of the stores I have been in have ever heard of it, so I have a feeling I will need to purchase it over the net.

Best Regards

Best prices I found (using the Multiregion DVD Price Checker )

http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/dvd.cfm?itemID=IMA005867 £26.93
http://www.lasersedge.com/title/8601 £26.95
http://www.dvd.com/product_movies.as...uctnumber=7565 £27.23

The costs are inclusive of shipping to the UK (the only shipping option they currently list), but it should give an idea.

HTH!
