AX100 connected to DVP-NS76H

Shortly to couple up a Panasonic AX100 to a Sony DVP-NS76H DVD player (currently on order).
Can anyone confirm that to attempt to obtain the best results (in principle) I should use a HDMI lead and make use of the NS76's upscaler?

Having read about the NS76 half a dozen threads further back in the DVD players forum, I think I've become a bit dazed! I'm just trying to determine what interconnect to obtain for this particular setup when starting from scratch ie., HDMI or Component?

Cheers

PS Not sure if this enquiry is best in the PJs or DVD Players forum. Moderator: please feel free to move. Thanks.

Re: AX100 connected to DVP-NS76H

I have this projector and DVD combination hooked up via HDMI. You can either output 576p and let the Panny do the scaling or set the Sony to output at 720p. I imagined the Panny would do a better job given the Panny's excellent reputation for its scaling abilities, but I actually find it looks far cleaner and sharper letting the DVD player do the upscaling.

Re: AX100 connected to DVP-NS76H

Thanks stuartbrown21 for your feedback on the upscaling. At least it's nice to now that the upscaler might come in handy then.

Did you happen to choose HDMI over Component for particular performance reasons? After browsing the Sony .pdf manual hookup instructions, I'm unsure if upscaling is available via component. Sorry about this, but is it basic knowledge (which clearly I don't yet have), that HD is only available via HDMI?

Thanks again.

Re: AX100 connected to DVP-NS76H

I think it is fairly rare that upscaling is available via component, but that it is possible in some cases.

I chose HDMI for 3 reasons:

I'm running only a 1m cable and I was able to get a reasonable cable for about £13. With HDMI or any other other digital cable they should either work or not work - there should be zero difference between a £100 working cable and a £5 working cable. There can however be performance differences between component or other electrical cables. Plus HDMI cables are easy to detach and attach, unlike component which is a real bugger!!

Upscaling was available via HDMI.

I required the component inputs to attach my Freeview box (via an RGB to component converter).

I'd say go with HDMI as it is straightforward and easy.

I'll happily answer any more questions. You may also find it useful to have a read through a thread I started about my experiences with this PJ and DVD set up.

Considering your first projector? Read this!!
