If you had £1500...

Hi there chaps...

Am in the market for either a 40" Sony LCD tele or a pj.

I have around £1500 to spare and will be mainly be using it for 360 gaming, sdtv and hddvd.

What would you recommend?

Thanks

Bushido

Re: If you had £1500...

There'll be plenty of suggestions, most of them good.

Before the list begins, may I start the list with the forthcoming Optoma HD73. It'll be either £1,500 or £1,600, and the spec is nothing short of jaw-dropping for the price.

Of course, when it comes out it might be a dud, with problems of which we are unaware. But if it lives up to the spec, I think you'll struggle to find a better projector for the money.

Re: If you had £1500...

before we start on projector recommendations, what current TV do you have?

As much as I love my projector, I couldn't use it as the only way to play my 360 games and watch movies in HD. I need my TV as well (37" LCD)

So if you only have a little CRT SD TV at the mo, I'd get an nice HDTV first, then look at a projector later on - might even be able to squeeze a 1080 projector in 6-9 months for that budget.

Re: If you had £1500...

Hi Bushido,

If you do decide to go down the projector route, I'd seriously consider getting a demo of the In76P by Infocus, which is hd ready up to 1080i. It's comfortably under your budget which will leave you some spare for a decent screen and cabling etc....

I only use mine for 360 and dvd at the moment and imho the pq is fantastic. The "rainbow effect" is an issue as some people are apparently more susceptible than others, and I have noticed it a few times during film but never whilst playing games, dunno if there is a reason for this but it has been very infrequent in my experience so far.

I'm sure you will have many suggestions, as mentioned above, but so far I'm more than satisfied with my lot.

Hope it helps.

Toko.

forgot to mention that there is a certain "wow factor" involved when showing off to friends for the first time. But I'm sure we're all far to mature here to let that be an influence!

Re: If you had £1500...

Thanks Toko...

Ok lets say I get the IN76 I don't have the possibility of wall mounting it due to their being a window right behind the sofa and not enough room at the top.

So a floor mounted unit from Vogel is looking the best for me. It will sit behind the sofa and make the cable situation very tidy in fact!

The floor stand for the pj is 66cm and the height of the pj is 11.94cm. The distance from pj to screen is about 4.7m.

That would mean a minimum of a 109" (diag) screen. I am confused by this offset calc...Can you help me at all with this?

Also I would need longer component cables for the 360...where could I get them from?

Re: If you had £1500...

The answer to your question is easy, PJ all the way.

The problem for you now is which one to get.....................
