Decision on which projector, help required

Please dont knock me down in flames I found this site through Google and i thought it was the best place to try and get some help

I have a spare room in my house and i want to convert it to a games room with NTL Cable TV and a ceiling mounted projector for the children

OK I currently have the NTL Cable box installed in that room but...

I obviously need a sound system to play the cable box through and I need a projector

What do i need to buy what do i need to make sure each unit has so it all connects

I presume the cable TV goes to a Home Cinema system,Do you recommend a Kit? and then something comes out of this to the projector.

I am scared of buying the wrong units that wont or are not compatable

Could anyone please suggest a good projector reasonable in value that i could purchase

Does the projector have to have a certain wire connection ie scart or something to join to the Home Cinema system

Any any help would be helpful please

Re: Home cinema help

First of all thank you for helping me

I have done some resarch and i thought a good projector to get would be an Infocus In72 as it has a Component video conection and i was also going to buy a Samsung HTTQ25 Home Cinema as it would appear i could connect the Home Cinema to the projector through a Component connection and connect the NTL box to the Home Cimnema through a scart lead.

I hope i am correct

What do you think about this equipment or could you recommend something else

Re: Decision on which projector, help required

The In72 is great, but you could get an Optoma HD70 for not too much more which is 720p High Definition. This will 'future proof' you against HD, which NTL is bringing in soonb, as well as future HD disc formats.

If your kids play games, then both the XBOX 360 and the upcoming PlayStation 3 have High Definition output.

For sound may I recommend the Sony HTSS1000 - available from Emire Direct at only £215. It has HDMI switching, so you could put 2 sources into that via HDMI, then that into the projector via HDMI + 1 extra source into the projector via Component.

If you have an XBOX 360 or PS3 that'll act as a decent HD disc player.

Couldn't agree more HD70 looks like a great deal from a reputable manufacture and 720p HD into the bargain. My view (fwiw):

Top budget projectors (480p): Infocus IN72, Optoma H27, BenQ W100

Top HD projectors (720p): Sanyo PLV-Z5, Optoma HD70, Mitsi HD1000, Panasonic AE700.

There are some great deals around on the Sanyo PLV-Z4 which has been superceded by the Z5. The Z4 is a great HD LCD projector so worth considering if you can still get hold of one.

Also consider replacement lamp prices. The Optoma projectors generally win out here, as the others will probably be over £200. (Although there were some Z4's knocking about with a free lamp offer)

Hope this helps,

The BenQ W100 has virtually the same spec and performance as the IN72 but is available for under £400 and has cheaper replacement bulbs.
