This Will Interest Hitachi TX100 Owners & Probably TX200 & 300 Owners As Well

Before i start this testing was done on a TX100 so im assuming the results maybe the same on the newer models but dont quote me.

I was playing about last night with my HTPC and PJ. In the middle of a new install so the PJ only went up. As its all calibrated etc i just started to play about with something that ive not even bothered to think about before. It stems from the coming of HD-DVD and Blu-Ray.

I messed about with custom resolutions and timings and to my suprise got some super results. Firstly i will say this was done over the DVI (HDCP) Socket and not the VGA, i may try that another night if im bothered but i see no reason to atm.

When i mentioned above about the next gen of discs my curiousity over 24 frames per sec started. I dont really see any judder playing back NTSC stuff at all this was just done out of interest and not to improve my display.

Anyways onto it i started messing around with custom timings and resolutions and got some good results. Remember this model does not have the HD logo attached to it.

I knew already i could display 720p @ 50/60hz so i left that alone, what i was more interested in was 1080 and more importantly 1080/24. I manged to get a steady locked resolution of 1920x1080 at wait for it 24/30/50/60 I tried 72 but it gave me an error tbh ive never heard of 1080/72 i think i tried it as i remember setting up my PJ for NTSC dvd's @ 72hz for judder free playback once out of interest to see what it was like.

Anyways onto the performance again i was pretty suprised as i didnt expect much as its all downscaled to 720p its just were that scaling occurs in the PC's Gfx card or at the projector.

I used star wars ep 3 transport stream which is 1920 x 1080 @ 29.97 FPS & I dont really see judder when the pc is outputting @ 720p but its ever so slightly there and not at all distracting, id only be nitpicking.

Playing at 1080/30 to the PJ basically took those small small judders away it was a flawless viewing experience from the small time i spent.

Ive got a decent collection of files but none are native 24FPS sadly so i couldnt try that. Mate has a HD-DVD deck but it dosnt output 1080/24 even if the discs are mastered at that, so couldnt try it: (

Not to sure what this is all about but just some info for fellow AVF users who may not know the capabilites of the machines. Maybe some of you with the TX200 or 300 can try this stuff, tbh i havnt seen the spec of the tx300 but it wouldnt suprise me if its in the manual noting it supports all the resolutions mentioned. I must note as well that in the TX100 manual it says the max input res over DVI was 1280x1024 what do they know

Some pics below for validity.

Regards

Oh edit my Gfx Card isnt top range its just a shuttle HTPC system with a 3.0 Ghz P4, GB Of Ram & a 7 Series Nvidia Gigabyte Passive 7100GS.

Re: This Will Interest Hitachi TX100 Owners & Probably TX200 & 300 Owners As Well

I had a play with 1920x1080 on my TX200 a while back but found no benefits detail wise and it makes everything else virtually illegible so I stopped messing with it. I think my PC does a better job converting to 720p than the Hitachi. Plus I only download 720p now anyway.

You can use something like http://reclock.free.fr/ to stop judders with a lot of material.
