quick review of sony pearl!

Hey folks, my new pearl has just arrived!. Its in a light controlled room, sitting on a box at the moment untill the rest of my gear arrives(new beamax m silver 244cm electric screen, ceiling mount etc)

I've quickly set it up on my old screen which was very easy to do. Out of the box colours are very good and the blacks are far inkier and more detailed than i've ever seen. I'm used you a sanyo Z4 which always had gray blacks to me, this is so much better. You have to go very close to see any pixel structure at all, i saw no dead pixels though i did notice some convergance problems(blue seemed about a pixel to the right on the very edge the other colours about half a pixel out too). Standing back about 1m the picture looks perfect and very film like. Ive tried some hd-dvds, riddick, serenity,T3, and they looked amasing. It was a very smooth, highy detailed, punchy,3d image and a far departure from the Z4. Its been said before and will be again but its a very cinematic and doesnt feel like you are watching a digital projector.

I tried some dvds via my toshiba hd player and noticed a marked improvement there too, benefitting from the better blacks and internal scaler/deinterlacer(though i think my tosh is out putting 1080i). Its very quiet too, in high lamp mode. A whisper quieter than my Z4, and i never noticed it once during viewing.

Sorry about the basic review, im off to watch some more!!. the projector is due to be isf calibrated on the 28th November, so will feed back more info then.

Does any body know a better way to check panel alinement?, if not dont worry you can only see it when very close!.

Re: quick review of sony pearl!

check alignment using a cross hatch pattern found on a clibration disc, easiest way to spot misconvergence. you will only see it upclose but if its 2 pixels or more get it swapped out asap, as that would be too much

Re: quick review of sony pearl!

cheers, i'll have to borrow or order one!. Just watched some recorded sky hd (sin city, SW 3, LOTH ROTK) and was absoluty blown away by the quality!!!. Made sure the room was in blacked out condition and the screen set to the size i plan to use. It really was breathtaking, its all starting to sink now.
