Infocus 7210 with denon 1920

I have recently got a refurbished infocus 7210 from Luzerntech. I am trying to play it with a denon 1920 via the HDMI output to the M1 connection (source 1) using a HDMI to M1 adapter. the projector does not seem to recognise the signal and constantly has a blank screen with 'searching' at the bottom. The projector demonstrates a USB symbol as the input for source 1, but does not even have a USB port. Am i missing something very obvious here or has the refurbished PJ somehow been misprogrammed to look for a USB source. Please help. Many thanks

Re: Infocus 7210 with denon 1920

If you can get the menu on the screen go to the 'Sources' menu (in the settings menu) and make sure 'Autosource' is ticked. If it is not the PJ will look for the last used source, in this case the USB, tick this option then restart, the PJ will then search for inputs, starting with the last used, then in order until it finds one, you should also be able to change the input source via the 'source' button.

This assumes your DVD is set up to output via HDMI and the cable is ok!

Re: Infocus 7210 with denon 1920

thanks Sean,
DVD output is set to HDMI. brand new cable (ixos) and adapter. PJ is set to autosource. still no picture. I don't understand the USB symbol as the PJ does not have a USB connection.
thanks again

Re: Infocus 7210 with denon 1920

how long is the cable? its possible if its a long cable its picking up interference from other cables/equipment and isnt strong enough for the PJ to recognise it as a signal....

i ran a HDMI from a 3910 DVD player to a 7205 and no problems, the M1DA input can take HDMI or DVI, both of which Infocus do cables for that also include a USB cable spliced in for control via computer or for firmware updates.....hence the USB looking symbol on Input 1.....

have you tried other ways to connect, if only to narrow down options...ie use a component connection and see if that works....if so at least you know both devices are working.....then you can try something else.....a different HDMI cable for example.....or a DVI cable with the DVI adaptor....

i just plugged and played straight out of the box......hmm...on my 3910 iirc (not currently got the HDMI connected, just component) you have to switch the HDMI on via the remote, also choose between component and RGB, and in my 3910's case whether you want to upscale in the DVD player.....might be worth playing around with those settings again?.....cant think otherwise what it might be....

make sure the HDMI cables are fully pushed in as well, ya never know...lol

Re: Infocus 7210 with denon 1920

thanks Knyght Byte.
DVD player works with CD's via amp and with also with DVD on TV via scart. PJ works with laptop into VESA 2. Leads and adapters seem to be well pushed in (I don't want to risk damaging them). Sounds like it must be a faulty lead/adapter.
Thanks to all

Re: Infocus 7210 with denon 1920

well, i hope it is just a faulty lead or adaptor

at least thats the cheapest option to have to sort out...lol

let us know if it is that problem btw, or if not what else you try....always helpful to others if they experience a similar problem

Re: Infocus 7210 with denon 1920

Discovered the problem - Doh.
Projector was not displaying when HDMI was set to 720p or 1080i. However, it did display when set to 420 or 576. This confused local friendly HIFi dealer who demonstrates Infocus in76 via 720. Infocus could offer no explanation why this was happening. Display was via 3m Ixos 288 cable. Any other infocus 7210 owners experience anything similar?
regards

Re: Infocus 7210 with denon 1920

I have a 7205 Screenplay and use a 15m HDMI cable to display SkyHD with no problems whatsoever.
When I use SkyHD the PJ displays "1080i" signal input. I would study the manual again to make sure you haven't missed anything out. Sometimes when I change the output resolution I get a black screen, I just exit menu (if I'm in it) and press the Auto Image button or the Source 1 button.
Make sure your PJ is on first before you turn on the DVD player and then the PJ should lock onto the incoming signal. You should definitely be able to display a 1080i output signal from your DVD player. I think the USB symbol just signifies a digital input for Input 1.
Check your Sources and that Video 1 (M1-DA) is ticked and untick any other source that you do not use. This will mean the Autosource will only cycle through the ticked sources, speeding things up.
But the biggest mistake people make is to have the DVD player on before they turn on the PJ. The PJ locks onto an incoming signal and if the source is already on, it sometimes misses it.

Agree 100%
I have the same setup as our friend with the difference that the M1 to dvi cable is 10m and bought directly from infocus and then use a Monster HDMI to DVI adapter. Never experienced any of the problems mentioned above.
It's very important to power on the pj first and wait for the logo to appear for a few seconds than power on the dvd.

Re: Infocus 7210 with denon 1920

Once again, thanks for the above. I have done as instructed - PJ first then DVD player - same result. Plays at 420 and 576 but not 720 or 1080. I see MikeyGee you have the same PJ and DVD as me but no probs. Could it be the HDMI cable ie IXOS 288 3m? (although it is apparantly capable of 1080). HiFi dealer says that it is not so much an issue for DVD with upscaled pictures but would be a major issue if I want to display HDTV - which is what i eventually intend to do. the firmware is version 1.2 - is this the latest version?

The firmware you have is the latest. Your situation does seem odd. Certainly there is something wrong somewhere in the chain. Start with the cable and work your way up from there.
You can buy a cheap, reasonable HDMI cable from eBay for about £10 ( see: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HDMI-2metre-ca...QQcmdZViewItem ) This should determine if the cable is at fault. I see you are using a HDMI to M1-DA adapter which may also be at fault so consider changing this also.
Of course it could be the DVD player ( do you have a friend with SkyHD or an upscaling DVD player who you could visit with your 7210 and try it there? Take the original cable/adapter and then you can see if the DVD player is the problem)

Lastly and hopefully not the problem is the PJ. You need to know if this is the problem asap so you can get it rectified. If after replacing everthing else you still cannot display 1080i then the pj must have a fault. I bought my 7205 from Luzerntech and the first unit had a fan problem (it slowed and speeded up continuously) They replaced it without fuss and the second unit has proved great and very reliable so you should be ok if the pj needs replacing.

Sorry to state the obvious, but having an order of diagnosis always helps!

Good luck mate!
