Projector Newbe, Advice would be appreciated.

Hi guys,

I’m looking to purchase a projector, screen and all the accessories that I’ll be needing for a half decent home cinema installation, which will be going in to my bedroom, and after a visit to my local Sevenoaks sound and vision store this is what we have come up with. Can you please let me know if this is a good set up and if the price is about right considering its from high street shop and not the internet.

1 X DLP Projector Screenplay IN72
1 X 72” Wide 16:9 Manual Screen Luma 83
1 X Ceilling Bracket
1 X Qunex HDMI 5 Meter
1 X 3rca to 3rca Comp Lead 5 Meter

Plus Installation

£1290.00

£1040.00 without Install

Installation is £250.00 a cost I would like to lose, so could you also tell me if fitting a screen and projector is a simple job.

Thanks

Big RJ

Re: Projector Newbe, Advice would be appreciated.

Well, it could boil down to how good you are at DIY and working things out if/when problems arise, but it should be relatively simple.

The screen should be square to the room otherwise the pj could end up having to be off to one side, andthe pj lens has to be in the center line of the screen. That can be the tricky part, but you can use string going from both top corners of the screen to the ceiling and make a mark. Where the marks cross is the center point. Use another bit of string with a small weight from it so that it drops down from the ceiling and you can use that to line up the pj lens if you're ceiling mounting it a few inches down.

There are other ways no doubt but that's one way. Or you could use trial and error until you get it in the right place.

With one pj I had it on the floor and gradually raised it up using boks and DVDs until it was perfectly lined up with the screen, then measured the distance both were from the floor. I then used that info to fix the pj to the ceiling to get it at the right height.

I made a few small errors getting the oj in the rightplace the first time I did it, but once you know where the center of the lens should go, it should help for lining up any future projectors you may upgrade to.
