Do you adjust to the rainbows?

I've found that I can see the DLP rainbows but I was wondering if you persist watching over a period of time do you adjust to them?.
Do you always see them but just get used to them so they do not detract from viewing enjoyment, or do they eventually vanish altogether? Of course I guess they could continue to drive you crazy so you have to get rid of the pj.
I'd be interested in the experience of those who are susceptible but who have persisted as I'm considering the Infocus IN76.

Re: Do you adjust to the rainbows?

Some DLP projectors exhibit rainbows more than others depending on the quality of their design and more specifically their colour wheel segments/speed. The Infocus In76 is one of the better models with regards to suppressing rainbows and even those that usually see them, see them rarely with the In76.
To your other point, I would say definitley yes, you do become accustomed to them and see them less over time. The initial problem is once you have noticed rainbows, you tend to search for them and make them happen. After a while, you stop doing this and just enjoy the otherwise superb image. I used to notice them at the beginning, but now I hardly ever see them at all.

I have an infocus 4805 and i did see rainbows at first. And for the first few weeks they did trouble me - then they just went away! (or rather i didnt notice them any more).

I do see them occasionally now - but they just dont bother me. I definately think its down to being a bit stressed and critical of your new toy - just sit back relax and enjoy your very own cinema!

Re: Do you adjust to the rainbows?

I can see them. Never bothered me in the least. But then the 7205 is one of the best in this regard.

Re: Do you adjust to the rainbows?

I have had a IN76 since April, I never saw any rainbows until 3-4 weeks ago.
A little frustrating that this has happened some DVD's more than others.
Star Wars is probably the worst for me, it doesn't put me off I just try & ignore them.

Re: Do you adjust to the rainbows?

my mate has got a smasung 50 inch dlp proj telly. It was seeing xbox on that that set me off on all this av insanity! when i read about rainbow effect i went back looking for them and saw loads. Its worse when theres alot of black with flashes of white, no wonder most people see loads in the starwars space fights. Having said that, i go back now and just enjoy the film without looking, maybe see on or two but you really dont notice. for what its worth

Re: Do you adjust to the rainbows?

I used to have an Optoma H30 and although I used to see the occasional rainbow my eyes sort of adjusted to it over time. However in reality I don't think it was my eyes adjusting but the gradual reduction in lumens over time that played the biggest factor.

When I upgraded to a HC3000 the rainbows were very bad, I tried adjusting to that as best I could but the combination of a brighter and newer bulb was a killer. I just had to return it after 20 hrs of rainbows. (This was also after spending 2hrs in the dealers demo room where due to the differences in set-up screen size, lighting conditions I saw about 2/3 rainbows total)

After that I decided that for me DLP was just not worth risk. For my eyes single chip DLP technology is inherently flawed unless they can significantly increase the RGB refresh rate. I ended up playing it safe and bought a HS60 instead. Although the truth is that the HS60 can't match the overall picture performance of a good 720 DLP machine.

Re: Do you adjust to the rainbows?

I'm a fan of LCD and currently own a Z3. DLP does generally offer better contrast but it uses a lot of trickery to display the image which I find quite harsh and tiring on the eyes (i've watched films on the H30 and 4805 projectors). As for rainbows, I can only see them if I look for them hence are not an issue for me personally. Rainbows WOULD however be an issue in my home, as home cinema is often a social thing and the last thing I want is for one of my friends to be affected by it. Incidently, I believe that claiming a 'minority' are affected by rainbows is seriously understating the problem.

Re: Do you adjust to the rainbows?

Hi,

I only have an Infocus X1a, and the rainbows are visable, but the picture can't be beaten for the price I paid for it, so I can't really complain.
I found that I don't really notice them unless the viewing material is dark with bright areas, such as titles, and bright lights on a movie etc.
I have got used to this problem, and don't find it an issue, unless I am in a 'critical picture' mood

Re: Do you adjust to the rainbows?

I have recently demoed a lot of DLP models and I love the look of the picture they produce. I didn't really see too many rainbows but what I found was that my eyes couldn't properly relax when viewing them. Amazing picture but it felt like I was reading small print. The difference was very noticeable when I demoed a 3 chip DLP, after an hour and a half of single chip DLPs, it was like taking off a pair of bad prescription glasses. Shame I would have to sell a few less important internal organs to get one.

I have watched my friends PJTX100 for 7 hours straight on occasion and actually found it easier on my eyes than a conventional plasma or CRT screen. With the new C2Fine LCD and cheaper SXRD models coming out soon I think its worth waiting to see what will happen.
