Unhappy Pioneer DV668AV to Screenplay 4805 digital video not working

I’m trying to get a digital video signal between a HDMI DVD player and a DVI projector. I’m told this can be done. I have connected the above kit with a 50ft HDMI to DVI cable bought from bluejeanscable.com. I also have a DVI to M1-DA adaptor at the projector end.

I can’t get a digital signal between the two. Component via the amp works fine. When I select computer as the source on the projector I just get a blue screen. I have checked the following:

The digital source is enabled on the projector settings.
Projector source is set to computer
DVD is on with a disc in it displaying the title menu
I can display my PC using the VGA to M1-DA cable that came with the projector no problem
Disconnecting the component connection from the DVD has no effect
The HDMI settings on the DVD menu are greyed out – according to the manual these should be available when a HDMI device is connected to the unit.

So it seems the DVD player is not picking up the fact a digital device is connected to it. Is it because the projector is not HDMI. Any ideas how I can get the two to talk to each other?

Maybe you need to change the output settings in the DVD player itself. If it is set to component, then you may need to change it to HDMI.

On the projector check the following:
1) Video 1 (M1-DA) source is enabled (ticked box)
2) Autosource is enabled ( will lock on to any incoming signal automatically)
3) Connect and turn on PJ before you turn on the DVD player. When you turn on your DVD player, the PJ should lock on to the incoming signal and display it.
4) Press the 'Source' button on pj or remote until an image is displayed (if you need to)

Good luck!

Re: Pioneer DV668AV to Screenplay 4805 digital video not working

I would be looking at a smaller cable if you can borrow one from somewhere. 50' is a fair size for a HDMI --> anything cable.

I've been reading, albeit with some exceptions, that 10m ( about 33' ) is probably the most you can go without some signal loss.

As Oakley says definately have the PJ on before turning on the 668. I used to have an AE700 and had to turn that on before my Pio 868 otherwise the PJ just didn't lock onto the HDMI signal.

Hope this helps, let us know.

KH

[EDIT] - You might want to check these cables out, they are straight HDMI to M1 without the need for adapters and therefore cutting down the number of places in the connection route you might be experiencing problems...

Re: Pioneer DV668AV to Screenplay 4805 digital video not working

Thanks for the feedback folks

The PJ is defo set up for digital OK because I can display my PC on it. I’ve tried enabling autoscan and switching on the PJ first to no avail. I really think the issue is at the DVD end for the following reasons:

The manual says that the HDMI light will come on when connected to a digital monitor – it doesn’t

The manual says the first time I connect to a digital monitor the HDMI setting menu will show – it doesn’t

There is nothing in the manual about enabling the DVD for HDMI – all the information points to the fact that the DVD should pick it up automatically.

Unless of course it’s waiting for some kind of digital handshake from the PJ before enabling the digital connection at the DVD end – in which case it could be that the PJ is not picking it up… arrgghhhh!!!!

I’ll try a shorter cable next and let you know how I get on.
