Post interesting speaker condundrum

Hi i am wanting to set up a layout in my living room so that we have the basic crt television and cabinet with amp in for normal tv. However the set up for the projector viewing would be quite different and would require that i REVERSE the front and back speakers to project onto a wall . Anyone know how i can achieve the quick reversal of the front and back speakers without having to do a rewire on back of amp every time.

Re: interesting speaker condundrum

Spooky, that’s exactly what I have been asking myself recently as the GF insists the general room setup must be with the fireplace at the front & the chimney breast is too small for a screen.

Initial thoughts

Assuming that most films will be watched on the PJ & stereo is good enough for all TV material.
…………………………………………………………………………………………
Option 1 lots of speakers, speakers, 5.1 + stereo
Wire 5.1 for the PJ & a second small set of speakers on the Amp B output for stereo for the telly.
…………………………………………………………………………………………
Option 2 Not an option as it will blow up your amp.

Wire the A as 5.1 for the PJ & also wire the 2 rear speakers to the B output of your amp as stereo.
This means that you will end up sending a signal back to the B output of the amp when your using the a output.
…………………………………………………………………………….
Option 3 would be the safest & is the same as Option 2 but use a switch so that the rear speakers are either PJ rears or TV fronts.

Just found a maplin box that would do this.

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...1299&criteria=
………………………………………………………….....
Option 4

Use 2 of these Maplin boxes to swap the front & back speakers depending on the source..

So you would have to wire

Box 1 to TV front
Box 2 to TV rear

Speaker outputs would have to be split, passively should be ok as you would only be driving one source at a time

For TV
Front amp output to box 1 A input
Rear amp output to box 2 A input

Also for PJ

Front Amp output to box 2 B input
Rear Amp output to Box 1 B input.

You can then switch the speakers to be driven by front or rear outputs.

Still left with moving the centre unless you bought 2 centres you could use another type of switch to select which centre.

…………………………………………………………………………
Sorry if all this is a mess, just typing my thoughts. Would be interested in other peoples ideas.

Hope this helps get the ball rolling.

Just to confuse things, its more than just a front rear switch as when you turn its a front-rear + left-right switch. Still achievable but requires swapping the left & right of the B input.

So speaker 1 is front left for telly or rear right for PJ..............

You would definitley need to switch the amp off before switching or risk real damage.

.................................................. ........................................

Think its easier to buy an electric or manual roll down screen & keep it all facing the same direction.
