Cable Conundrum - Please Help!

I'm going to purchase a BenQ W100. It's connectivity is listed as:

Input Terminals

PC Analog RGB: DVI-I ×1
Digital RGB: DVI-I ×1 (HDCP)
Video Component Video 1: RCA ×3
Component Video 2: RCA ×3
S-Video: Mini DIN 4 pin ×1
Composite Video: RCA ×1
Audio PC audio: Stereo mini jack ×1

I need to connect up the following devices:

DVD player (via the DVI-I)
PS2
Sky SD Box (Has RGB Scart as only output I believe)
Surround Sound (output is through either optical or coaxial / AUX L - R )

Also, I'm looking to by an SD Plasma, if I can still find such a thing, so the Sky box will need to connect to both the PJ and Plasma. (Need some sort of splitter?) And the plasma will also be connected to a VCR.

To make things worse (to my untrained eye at least), is that the cables need to be about 6 metres long, as they will be travelling up the wall, across the ceiling and into the PJ. (I'll hide them of course, via a chimney breast and above the ceiling).

Anyway, can anyone please figure out how I connect this all together via which type of connection to get the best results? For example, can you even get a PS2 cable in that length and into a component input? How do I connect the Sky SD to the PJ? Is there some sort of adapter from scart to component? If so will it be rubbish PQ?

! I haven't got a clue.

Lots of questions! I have tried to suss it out myself on the net, but I'm really not getting very far.

Thanks in advance.

Edit: It's finally dawned on me that component doesn't carry audio. So assuming I could connect all my devices up, the 2 X component connected devices (Sky SD and PS2) won't have any sound! I'm more confused than ever. Arghh!

Hi,

To convert Sky RGB to component you need one of these:
`RGB to Component (YUV) Video Converter'
http://www.js-technology.com/product...products_id=36

and you can get a ps2 component cable AV cable, like this:
http://www.netpcdirect.co.uk/psx_comp_cable.php

6 meters shouldn't be a problem, and the picture quality should be very good.

When you say you won't have any sound, why exactly do you want to send it to the projector if you have a surround sound system?

Just get a coaxial cable for the DVD, an optical for the PS2 and a stereo phono lead for the Sky, all connected to your surround sound system (which is presumably situated next to them).

Re: Cable Conundrum - Please Help!

Thanks for your quick reply. You have saved me a headache. It's funny how simple these things become when somebody knows what there talking about.

Regarding the RGB to component converter: Is there a cheaper way of doing this? It's an expense I wasn't expecting, and I'm going to be pushing it budget-wise already...

Thanks again

Re: Cable Conundrum - Please Help!

2 more choices.

Maplins scart to component box (£79.99)

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...scart&doy=26m8

Maplins scart to s-video box (£34.99)

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...video&doy=26m8

I used the last option at my mates house to connect his Sky up to his Z4 projector and it looks okay. Certainly watchable and a lot better then composite.

Re: Cable Conundrum - Please Help!

Thanks Cyberheater.

I've also found that you can buy cables with scart at one end, and component at the other. I know that these cables don't convert the signal as the boxes do, but any ideas what sort of PQ they give out?

Thanks.

I think the cables are designed for some of the DVD players that do output component but only thru a standard scart. These cables won't work in your set up.
