Unhappy The dreaded 'dust blob' (I Think!)

Well have nearly got my room complete (see the link in my thread), but whilst viewing blade trinity at the weekend, i noticed a green smudge on the screen. Further investigation in this forums has lead me to believe that it is a dust blob, as I can get it fairly focused, when I alter the projector.

Now the problem, I have cleaned the front lenses and have taken the proj (a Sony HS20) apart, and used the compressed air to blast the panels as seen by the copper ribbons on the attached picture. I have done this twice, and still haven't managed to move the thing.

So now the questions, did anyone else have such a stubborn bit of grub?
As it is green, does that mean it is on the green panel?
Do I risk damaging the proj, if I blast the panels whilst it is powered on, to see if I can see what panel it is on?
Is there anywhere else it could be?
Do I have to send this to a Sony Service Center if I can't remove it, and any idea what the cost will be? I really don't want to be without the proj

Thanks for any help you can give.

Ricky

On my TX100, I had to actually remove the printed circuit board to get proper access to the panels. It's the ony way to really ensure that you get to the offending blob.

Check out my guide for the TX100.

I know it seems a bit hairy but if you take your time and be careful it is doable.

Thanks

That does look a little scary though, but has given me a better look at how the lcd panels are sited, so may mean that I can have another go, with a slightly different approach, knowing that the panels are set back slighty, with plastic surrounds. Presuming the Hs20 is the same.

Well i just popped home to spend my lunch with the proj.

Armed with the knowledge gained from the pics in Cyberheater's thread, I thought I would have another go at blasting the little critter from view.

So out can the air spray again, armed this time with the replacement filter. The new filter went in first, followed by a blasting of the panels again, concentrating underneath the ribbons this time, and especially on the green panel.

I put the top back on, and screwed on the mount, and took it back to the cinema.

Up on the mount is went, and all the leads were connected. I turned it on and waited with baited breath, just wondering what the outcome was going to be

And the verdict

The little critter has gone

No more green smudge on the dark/black screens

Thanks for your help.
