How's it hanging

Hi,

I recently bought a Hitachi PJ TX200 and I love it. At the moment it is sitting on a Ikea cabinet which is turned on its side and which is just behind the seating position. This is not at all a permanent thing and I would like to mount it on the ceiling.

I have been onto E-bay and seen dozens all claiming to be the best. Can anyone recommend a mounting that is not too dear and is easy to fix in place. I am sure I can fix it to a joist but do not fancy lifting the floor boards upstairs and putting bolts through the joist etc. Just want to screw into them through the plaster board...

Is this ok?

Is it possible to simply attach the mount to the ceiling without going into a joist?

and most importantly can anyone recommend ceiling mount. (Do not need one with arm etc.

Thanks for your help.

Barry.

You should aim for as many screws as possible in the joist. PJ not too heavy, but plasterboard is not ideal to hang it from! You do not need to bolt through the joist, just screw into it through the ceiling.

Try this, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/UNIVERSAL-LCD-...QQcmdZViewItem.

Ive had my last 2 pj's hung on one of these and its great, keeps the pj close to the ceiling and doesnt cost £10,0000000000000 like some of the other mounts. The mount is very very strong (holds my petite 16st frame without breaking) despite it being so cheap. I made an adaptor plate from some 2mm ally plate as the brackets supplied werent suitable for my Z4.

If securing into a joist is impractical (none on the location that you need them to be) you can always use hollow wall anchors, straight into the plasterboard.
A few of those should be more than enough to hold your projector and mount, they're commonly used to support radiators on plasterboard walls

Hi, You say about screwing straight into the plaster board. This is actually 110% fine for mounting a projector !! You dont need to screw into joists of lift floor boards. BUT, you need to get some plaster board screw fixings. These can be had from B&Q as so on, you get a bag of plasterboard fixings for about £2.50 (approx 8 in a pack). Hold your projector mount up by hand and mark the screw holes where you want it fixed, then wind in the plasterboard screws till they are flush.

Then in the same pack as the plaster board screws are some other screws, these screws screw into the plasterboard screws !! and hold your projector mount and projector firmly in place !! Its only a 10 min job. My panny projector has been held up with these for 3 years now and never had a problem at all !!

Many thanks guys. I will look at all your options. I am excited now as I can see the end in sight for permanently fixing my projector in place.

Thanks again

Just been on to e-bay and seen this mount which I quite like the look of (if that doesn't sound strange) "UNIVERSAL STEEL LCD PROJECTOR CEILING MOUNT PJR053"

Anyone know if it is any good or will they all do a job and I am being too fussy.

Cheers

Yet another option from Fleabay land:

Here

I'm using one of these - made for the TX100 / 200, easy to fit, seems sturdy enough. Allows you to get pretty close to the ceiling (but has no height adjustment).
In my garage conversion with its low ceiling, this helps stop you clonking your head on the projector if you're not careful!

HTH.
