Hi, i want to buy a projector but cannot mount it directly opposite the screen
Does anyone know of a projector that can be mounted to the side or are they all opposite mounted ??

Hi

It depends how far off to the side you need.

The Sanyo projectors for example have a generous horizontal lens shift which can be used to offset the picture by quite a long way.

The other option - less pleasing as it introduces artifacts though - is to find a projector that offers both horizontal and vertical keystone correction. You could then electronically correct the image. This isn't recommended though...

See its a rented house and i cant celing mount it and cant have it sitting on my knee so wanna put it on top of the beer fridge that sits next to me.
Also going to put a electric screen to lower just infront of my pioneer plasma
Hopefully should all look good

Any advice appreciated

You do need to say how far from the centre of the screen your beer fridge is before we can answer

You would certainly be OK with a Sanyo Z3 or Z4 projector. I've no first hand experience of the lens shift on the PJ-TX200 - I'm sure someone will be along shortly with your answer. My gut feeling is you'll probably be OK.

The lens shift on the PJ-TX200 is excellent with no real noticable reduction in image quality

With the PJ as high up the wall as I could get it - I was able to use the lens shift so that it projected an image low enough to touch the floor - say some 6ft

The horizontal shift seems to be of the same standards

Discount Tv about best with free bulb and FANTASTIC service

Presuming it's the same as the TX100, the Hitachi horiz shift is max 25% of the screen width - in other words if you want to place it 1m offcentre the screen will need to be 4m wide.

The Sanyo is 50% IIRC but reduces the more vertical lens shift you use.

Rule 1 of projecting - place the PJ as central to the screen as poss.

What PJTX100 just said. My mate has just got a Z4 and it's horizontal screen shift is enough to have it in a bookshelf beside the sofa and the projected image in central. I don't think the TX200 can do that.

I spoke to discount electrical just now and the guy there said the sanyo and hitaschi are very similar and neither one should shift image much more than the other , anyone like to back that up as im so far from anywhere to have a demo i really need to find out

Just tried the horizontal shift - its not as dramatic as the vertical - but managed to shift my image by about 3 foot to either side

I agree with whats put above though - its best to try and get the thing as central as possible

I have decided to go for the Sanyo Z4
Sending a cheque today so should have it ASAP , bought from a guy called Ben at discounttv.co.uk, most helpful and curtious , would recommend to anyone, anyway ill report back when its setup
