If you fancy watching movies on the PJ rather than beautiful close-ups of flowers have a gander at the 5th element shots here...

In fairness there are plenty of grabs from movies in that H72 thread, and they look pretty amazing too.

So would everyone say that PJ are better than Plasma and LCD. What do you think of the Themescene HD72i, does anybody have this, what are your opinions.

Although some people here on this forum do it, it's not really practical and certainly not cost effective to use a projector as your day to day TV. The Plasma will destroy a projector on broadcast signals, mainly due to the bitrate not being up to it once the Screen size gets to 5ft+. Also, in practice, the contrast on the plasma will beat the projector giving much better black levels. Regarding the cost I'm refering to the bulbs which are £300 ish to replace every 2000 hours or so if you're lucky.

However for movies on DVD it's projector all the way, no contest. In pure image quality terms the plasma still wins but my H79 on a 9ft screen looks fantastic given the screen size differences.

There's lots more to it but for me, its Plasma for TV and general use and Projector for DVD's (and big events...like the world cup with your mates).

2376 hours since september and counting....lol

TV, DVD, Computer....all go thru my lovely 7205 from Infocus...heh

and boy is it fun!

The bulb cost is an issue, unless you consider that if you had to buy a separate plasma or LCD of reasonable picture and size, you'd certainly be considering spending £1,500.....well, that 5 bulbs to me, so i'll stay with the bulbs...lol
altho i can control the light in this room for daytime viewing if i want (not perfectly atm as i'm waiting for proper blinds but i can still watch TV etc without it being washed out very much)......i'd say a TV would be better if the curtains had to remain open in the day....but then i work during the day so dont need it anyhow...heh

I'll only be using the projector for DVD's. I will use my CRT for normal TV. So would you all say I should go and buy a projector. Are they of Plasma quality. I don't think I will be able to purchase one until the end of the year, do you think there will be 1080i ones out by then. Also I will be mounting mine to the ceiling. How do you run HDMI cable from DVD player to that, would it not cost a fortune for a cable of that lengh, any of ideas. Anybody got pics of there setup and pics of the thing on.

In answer to the original question, how do they compare, they don't. Projector blows them away every time

HDMI cables can be had reasonably cheap, BUT on a long length you need to make sure its very well shielded.....but you dont need to pay fancy money to a company claiming its quality is better.....providing the signal is getting there intact then dont worry....

up to 10m you should get away with cables around £70-£110 at the most........longer than that and you could well be considering spending a bit more......altho not necessarily.....ask a dealer to lend you a long one and see how it works out...if its good then gopher it!

PLasmas are also fixed pixel devices it doesn't not follow that they will beat PJ's on black level or contrast, in fact most plasmas do not, just like everything there will be good ones and bad ones

As you can see below I have both a decent plasma and a decent projector. The 'black' from a projector image is actually the white screen with limited amount of overspill/reflected light on it. The black from a Plasma is the background colour when it is not on. Which do you think is more black, the white screen or the plasma when it's off? Isn't it basic physics?

To be fair my room has magnolia walls and a white ceiling so I dont get the best Blacks out of my H79. My 436 XDE blows it away for black level.
