Projector too good for screen size?

Hi. I am looking at buying my first projector and have around £1,400-£1,600 to spend. I have looked at these forums and found them very useful in deciding what projector to buy. Within my price range are the PJX-200, IN76, HD72i etc I will look at have demonstrations of these.

By looking at the creative audio website it shows screen size and casing size. My screen casing cannot be more than 2m long and from their website this means a 77" diagonal screen. If I have worked this out wrong, please let me know!

My question is, as this isn't the 'biggest' screen in the world, do I need such a good projector? I won't be moving house for years so it's not that I need buy the best now so I can upgrade the size of my screen at a later date.

Thanks.

Since I only eat one dinner a day, is fillet steak too good?

Surely the answer is obvious.

The DLP pj's you've listed are budget hi definition projectors. I assume you want an HD ready projector? If you didn't then you could look at the Infocus IN74 for DLP, but if you are thinking of keeping it for a few years then I would definitely go with an HD Ready one. The PJTX200 can probably be had for around £1000 I think, and if looking at LCD I would check out the Sanyo Z4 as well. Panasonic's AE900 is meant to be very good also, but I hear they are slow if you need to return for a fix. Both the Z4 & AE900 can be had for around £1000 I believe. Personally, I would go with DLP if you are not susceptible to rainbow issues, but a saving of £400, or more, may sway you to LCD.

A 77" screen is still way bigger than most plasmas. If you were spending £3 - £4K then perhaps it would be worth going with something less expensive, but the pj's you're looking at are very much at the cheaper end of the market, for HD that is.
