Can I use a projector in a 10ft x 10ft spare room?

Would it be worth using a projector in a 10ft x 10ft room where all my current kit is? Has anybody got any idea what size image I could get in a room this small? I don't really want to get a LCD or Plasma at the moment and I like to keep my old CRT and use a projector to watch movies. I've got a budget of up to £800-900 including screen.

thanks
Tony

I project a six foot wide image in an 11' x 11' basement and view at 8'. Impact is great.

Make sure you get a PJ without significant screendoor (i.e. a Panasonic LCD with smoothscreen, a DLP or an LCoS).

I agree. I have a very similar sized room, and my Panasonic 700E throws a nice 83" picture and am only 9ft away. The picture is great! Am sure the latest version will be better though I haven't looked at it. I'm also sure the Panny wouldn't be the only choice, but it's definate, 'YES, you can!'

Thanks VirusKiller and AvAl.

I think it's time for me to start doing some more research and look for a projector. I'm giving my system a complete overhaul and I've been told that Infocus and BenQ make good budget projectors - I'm going to see if any budget models out there are HD ready.

I've spent to last couple of hours reading the projector section of the forum and I have to say I'm hooked. I've decided to get a HD ready projector if possible. I've looked on Ebay to see how much HD ready machines have gone for recently and I've seen them go for under £500.

Example: Sony VPL-HS3 £350

£350 for a 70-80 inch image - what a bargain!!!

Worth noting that while nearly every projector on fleeBay says it's 'HD' only a few actually are, what you're looking for is a 1280x720 panel, the HS3 only has a 858x484 panel, so while you can feed it a HD signal, it is in no way capable of displaying it in high definition.

Thanks Jammyb,
I'll bear that in mind when looking for a projector and look for those specs.

I've done some extensive reading on the forums and I've decided to go for the Infocus Screenplay 5000. It's HD ready, available for a very reasonable price and seems to find the bill perfectly.

Thanks for the help.

From Pixmania? I've not heard good things about their customer service, but they are very cheap. Let us know how you get on and maybe post some screenshots when you get it setup
