Z4 Doesn't like certain NTSC signals, Picture cuts off briefly, Any Ideas?

Hello

Had a Sanyo Z4 for a couple of months now and love it

Watched a R1 film on it for the first time a few nights ago and the menu kept flickering, it would come on for a second and then goto black, then come on, then goto black etc, if you looked at the signal information in the projector menu it looked like the projector was losing the signal.

During parts of the film, always bright scenes the same thing would happen. Thought a first it was the DVD player but it is absolutely fine when viewed on the plasma, only had the player a few weeks (Arcam DV27A) and don't know if it was the same with my old player (Denon DVD-A11) as I never watched a R1 film on the projector with it.

If you go into the DVD player options and change the TV type to PAL rather than automatic the problem goes away but as it is converting it to a 575P signal rather than the normal 480P the quality is very poor.

It was especially bad tonight while watching 'Big Fish' Every few minutes it was doing it. Strange thing is though it isn't every R1 dvd I have, just tried two others and they played fine!

Any thoughts, remedies, comments etc?

Cheers

Chris

a temp fix might be to select the input signal on your pj as ntsc, as most pj's are set to "auto" from default. this might fix it, might not!

Hey, i have had similar problems. It seem to cut out on bright parts, such as when photos are taken. As you said it is fine on my plasma. I think i put it down to my componant splitter(ie sends a signal to the plasma and the Z4). Do you use one?. My DVD player is an arcam 88+. I have just ordered a toshiba HDDVD player so i will try that soon.

The Fatty, Don't think that is an option on the PJ.

Edddie, Yes, i do use a component switcher, maybe it is that??? Will attempt to try it without going through the splitter, might take a bit of fiddling to sort the wiring out though!

Cheers

Well, Just had my rack out again to try the DVD player straight into the projector (therefore bypassing the component switcher) and it works perfectly so the switcher is doing something to the signal that the projector doesn't like but the plasma is fine with, not what I would expect from a £500 switcher!

It only affects 480p signals, 480i is fine, 575p/i is fine and 720p is fine.

I have tried both outputs of the switcher and a couple of the inputs and the problem is the same very frustrating as I have loads of R1's that I cannot watch without lots of messing around.

I have initialized the switcher but to no avail.

i was just about to say to check the switcher... mine does the same though not to the extent yours does. mine's a cheapskate £7 play-asia one, and every few hours or so it'll bluescreen for a moment then carry on as normal.

no major thing really to me, but yours sounds much worse.
