Thanks: Gave 0, Got 8 | PTAE100 TO PTAE700, big difference?
Is there that big a difference from a PTAE100 to a PTAE700, is it a lot more lumens and brighter, ive moved to new pad and the ptae100 isnt bright enough for day use even with blinds down.
Dont wanna upgrade and not be wowed lol.
Is the 700 the same throw distance as the 100 too.
Then i need to ask from the 700 to the 900 is there a big increase too?

Thanks: Gave 0, Got 2 | AE100 to AE900
I went from the AE100 to the AE900 about 3 months ago and have to say
I wasn't sorry.....the pic is so much brighter without the greyed out dark scenes that annoyed me with the AE100....
Well work a upscaling player I've got a Sammy 950 the pic over HDMI at 720p
is excellent...better than the same over component, even the wife noticed and thats saying somethings...usually its " thats lovely dear "

I have just got the panasonic AE900 and as great as it is with HD content, it wasn't as bright as I'd hoped for regarding black level etc. That's LCD technology for you I guess. I've spent ages fiddling with all the settings, especially gamma levels and I have now finally found a really crisp and bright image on HD stuff that I'm pretty happy with. I sometimes wonder whether I should have gone for the Sanyo Z4 or Hitachi PJTX200 though for the extra brightness. I've tried watching the projector with Cinema 1, 2 and 3 presets and I cant believe how dull the settings are. Is the cinema really that dull or am I just going blind? It's a great projector though. HD stuff is amazing and bright, Superbit pretty good, though slightly less bright, DVD pretty good and SD only so so. I think I'll save the bulb for HD content mainly. Roll on SKY HD on 8th July!!

Yes, you will notice a [big] difference. If the AE700 is what you want go get one.
However, like a few others on this thread, I upgraded my 4 year old AE100 to an AE900 a few months back - the difference is AMAZING. Personally, I don't see why people are buying the AE700, when the AE900 is so much better (contrast, and smooth screen improvements).
I notice you mentioned a 'white wall'. I too was doing this originally (except it was a white sheet taut over a wooden frame), but then as money allowed I got a 1.2 gain, 9ft Elle screen. Most projector screens have a gain of more than 1 - that .2 extra in my case meant that the screen reflected 20% more light back at the viewer than the white sheet/wall would. A good screen is a _must_ imho.

There is a HUUUUUGE difference. I never liked the AE100 or 200 my mates owned. I kept my 40" Tosh TV as I prefered the PQ and was never impressed as I thought they both had a very weak picture and poor resolution. Then my mate got the Panny 500 and wow what a difference - so much so that I nearly bought one. The only problems with the 500 that i didnt liked was the black levels and the fact it had no lens shift, both which was solved with the 700 !! The 900 by all reports is hardly any different than the 700 if that makes you feel better about your potential purchase. No excuse not to spent some cash now

-Jar. | I have found out that a sheet is a hundred times worse than a white wall (or in my case homemade white painted screen). The pixels seep across the stitching and make everything look rubbish. Also a sheet will let light through, I suppose this = less than 1.0 gain?

I was content to live with the sheet for a while, until I realised HOW much light it was letting through! Pretty sharpish, I was off buying a decent screen
