Hitachi CP-RS55 - what is it like?

Hi

I have just ben given a Hitachi CP-R55 projector due to it being replaced at my work.

I really do not have any expectations regarding the quality - as you don't get "owt for nowt" but as I don't have a projector I thought I would give it a try.

I notice that it is listed as having a 16:9 mode, but a native res of 800X600. Will I be able to get a widescreen picture from my xbox360 using the VGA lead (720p?) I will go out and buy one if so - or will I be limited to 800x600?

Also does anyone know what kind of size image I can expect to get from this thing (my lounge is 14" wide)

Sorry if i am asking obvious questions but I don't know much about p/j's

Thanks

Dave

Here's a basic spec here:

http://www.projectors.co.uk/pp/Porta...I_CPR_S55.html

It's designed more for presentation as it has high lumens and low contrast.

Depending on how many hours it has on the lamp and whether or not it is set for video (more accurate colours) will have an impact on how bright it will be. If you want a cinema like image brightness, then you can go quite large on screen size but it will depend on how far back the pj can physicaly go in your room. A smaller image will be brighter. In the above link there is a guide to screen size and distance for pj to screen which should help. An easy method is to just fore it onto a wall and see what size is most suitable for your preferences, then get a screen to match it (if you really need one that is, a white wall can work quite well sometimes).

AFAIK it just switches pixels off to get the 16:9 mode. You can feed it 720p but it will be scaled down to fit the panel.

The contrast specs are low but for nowt it will do a job.

Thanks for the replies!

If it can downscale a 720P input I think I'll get a VGA lead for the xbox and experiment. At least with the expectations I have I don't think I can be too disapointed!

Thanks again,

Dave
