is it possible to upscale TV picture to HDTV using PC ?

Hi there. I use a HTPC to upscale my standard DVD`s to 720p using FFDSHOW, and I was just wondering if its possible to upscale the standard TV signal from freeview to 720p ???

I am guessing that If I can connect my freeview box to my PC and view the channels on screen then I must be able to upscale the image + add some filters to sharpen the image.

your thoughts ?

All you need is a freeview PCI card and connect your aerial to it. Hauppage is a make that rings a bell to me.

It will be upscaled to whatever res. your windows desktop is, and you can use it to record etc. Windows XP Media Center Edition is amazing for this.

Yes, as ched has said it's pretty easy to do and the easiest way is probably a USB freeview box though it's relatively simple to add in the PCI version. Some come with s-video and composite inputs which will allow you to upscale external sources too (laserdisk player maybe). DScaler is a freeware program that does a great job of deinterlacing but only works with certain chipsets IIRC.

You may not be too impressed with the image quality of freeview when it's blown up to such a large size, but it's watchable.
