Trying to setup PJ with TV signal so I can watch the world cup - Poor Quality !

Hi I have a optoma HD72 PJ + a HTPC which has a hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1100 TV capture card.

I woke up this morning and thought I better test what the picture Quality looks like on my 92" screen for watching the world cup on in a few weeks. So pulled out my aerial out of the back of my standard TV and plugged it in to the back of my TV card.

searched for TV chanels etc .........................

Ok from viewing the TV in the very small standard box/window it doesnt look to bad.... But as soon as I choose TV mode (full screen) the picture looks very close up and you can see all cloudiness ! and in no way does the picture look sharp !! what resolution does standard Tv signals come threw at as I am guessing its no were nere 720p which my PJ supports ?

any advice on how I can get a decent picture at full screen on my 92" PJ, so I can enjoy the world cup at home ???

I do have a digital box so I could go that root + my PJ came with some adapter which converts scart to HDMI or something like that.

thanks for help people !!

I use a Pioneer freeview box, the picture is quite soft, but I use S-video rather than RGB, as i run all video through my amp.

The uk TV signal is 576i, so either your PC or PJ will be rescaling this to 720 depending on your graphics card settings.

I'll take a screenshot of mine tonight if you like, to see if it looks any better than what you are seeing.

Hi mate it came with my actual projector but I never new what it was ment for untill now.

find out what your projector supports regards to input. you should have a DVI or HDMI input on your actual projector.

the way I did it was this.

the adapter I had was VGA 2 scart >>> I plugged the scart end in to the input scart port on my freeview box >>>>> I then attached a VGA cable to the other side >>>>>>>> I then used a VGA 2 DVI convertor on the end of the cable and hooked it up to the DVI port on my projector.

fired it up >>> found the source >>> and then crystal clear picture Quality !!.

what input does your PJ support ??

Thank you,jamieuk23.I do not have a projector at the moment but I am trying to decide between Hitachi PTJ-X200 and Optoma HD72.Hitachi has VGA and Optoma has DVI so it should be fine.

Thats what i do for sky+ (using the adapter that came with the PJ) and a VGA cable.
Dont forget to switch on the Faroudja chip in the settings and set it to Video.
It will eliminate all those horrible jaggies on the pitch lines !

To be fair the Optoma comes with all the adapters to do this (scart to 15 pin Dsub and 15 pin dsub to DVI-A), you only need to supply a decent vga cable and you are done

I did exactly this with my sky + box to my H79 and couldn't get any picture whatsoever. Any thoughts on what may have gone wrong?

Optoma HD72i owners.

Any issues with lip sync when you've got the faroudja chip on in video mode when connecting to your freeview boxes?
