Screen Gain for a Sony HS60

Hi folks, with the help of the forums i think I am gong to get a Sony HS60. I need some advice as to what Screen Gain I should go for. The screen is going to be 7ft wide in a near light controlled room, the throw will be about 14feet. I can get a 7ft Beamax screen (Gain 1) with 12v trigger for just over £500. Would this be ok or should I be looking for a higher gain as I understand the HS60 is not the brightest projector in the world and also taking into consideration that it will dim over time

I project my HS60 onto a 8' Vutec 1.1 gain from 4 metres. I don't have complete light control but it is still quite a good image. As you say it's not the brightest of projectors but has a great picture especialy if you have total light control.

I would say it depends on your priorities. If you like a bright image then I would go for a 1.3 gain. If on the other hand you like deeper blacks I'd stick to a 1 gain. Its a trade off between one or the other and the only way to get both is to spend more money and get a better PJ. I would rather stick with a gain of 1 and let the PJ dictate both brightness and contrast while others will push a PJ in a certain direction with either high gain or grey screen or filters. I just sit down and say this is my projector, this is what its capable of and try not to worry if I'm not seeing what another guy see's on his £6000 Ruby.

Badass what you say makes sence, will the pic still look dynamic on a screen with a gain of 1. Also does having a higher gain screen reduce the angles at which you can see a good pick or produce hot spots? Sorry but I dont know much about screens
