King Kong on the HD72

Didnt see KK at the cinema but sat down to watch it last night with the wife.

For anyone who has seen this on their Pj (and hopefully the HD72) can you tell me if you had any odd colouring changes in certain scenes ?

I'm not sure if Peter Jackson deliberately shot this in "sepialike" tones but on many scenes the colours appeared orangey or washed out. Some of the distance shot scenes in the jungle looked like an old Tarzan film from the 50's !! Then it would move to a close up and all was fine, then a zoom out/angle change and odd again

Its like different scenes are shot with different cameras/lenses or film type

It was starting to bug me so I rechecked all my calibration and it looked fine. I also turned off AI/auto iris in case this was causing an issue. It was so odd the wife even noticed it !
I wacked in Sith (which is my test/demo movie) and that looked fine

I'm sure the PJ is fine but wanted to see if anyone else has noticed this on KK ?

I have an infocus 5700 pj, and watched king kong only a few days ago, cant recall ever seeing what you have, but then may have missed it. If you could tell us what scene/chapter it was, we could tell you if the problem is also seen, on other peoples pj.

You didnt think it was very sepia like in colour anywhere ?

I didn't notice anything like this on my Themescene H57. I only watched it last night as well.

There was much detail on many scenes and i just found myself enjoying it.

I must say King Kong was possibly one of the best transfers ive watched on my Optoma dv10. stunning visually and no sepia like tones for me either.

How does it look using the same DVD player on your TV ? As Sith looks fine it doesn't point the finger at the pj I'd say.

I thought King Kong was from begininng to end one of the best looking films I have ever seen, no sign of any sepia colour issues at all.

Thanks to all for the responses. I must admit I'd heard KK was a great transfer, must be my settings.

Time to have a play

Also, which connection are you using to the pj ? I can't actually get the DVI-D connection to work anymore, it worked for about 1 minute before getting serious picture breakup followed by 'no signal'. If you're using DVI, try HDMI ?

Watched KK for the first time on my HD72 last week Sniffer and no reported issues here. Must be your colour calibrations.

Jules

well I've dropped my scaler temporarily (going to upgrade it) and Im going in via SCART from my DVD over VGA cable and the HD72 adapter.

Colur is fine on other DVD's. Its very odd, what I get isnt just colour related. The only way I can describe it is its like when you watch the poorer quality cut scenes that you often get when loading the DVD menu options. They are always poorer quality, videolike. The sharpness is much reduced as well.

I've got the Fariudja chip on as im feeding 576i so Im wondering if its FILM detection is USC

I'm going to try component from the dvd and see if its the same
