Are these any good?

Hi all, I am new to all of this and while looking for a new TV in my local currys I saw a Samsung and Toshiba RP TV for around the £700.00 mark. I spoke to two different sales assistants who told me two different things????

Any way all I want to know are if these are any good as the price seems a little to good to be true. I am looking for a TV for the lounge which will be used for my

360
DVD'S
TV (NTL)

My budget is around £700.00. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I don't want to buy a TV just because the price is right.

Many Thanks

This should probably be in the RPTV forum, but out of curiosity, which model was it and what were the different things you were told?

Should be fun seeing which salesman was the most clueless.

Nice one Gary, but to be fair to the salesmen I am sure they were experts in the oven and microwave departments. LOL

Hi Gary, I can only find one of the model numbers at the moment

Samsung
SP43W6HDX

One sales man said that they where rubbish due to poor picture quality and tryed selling a £1300.00 set even though I said I only had a budget of £700.00.

The next one that popped along was telling me that granted they are not future proof but they have great picture quality, will last longer then a plasma and a lcd, he also went on to mention how robust they are in terms of teh screen.

So in short "huh"

i looked at the rptvs in there a while back, probably about a year and they were about £500-600 online with a £50 off voucher (look on google they might still do it). the pictures were pretty good i thought but tbh now i think it is an awful lot of money to pay. second hand rptv on here go for 100-200. in the end i kept my crt and bought a projector which was only cheap 300 with a screen but gives a great picture and most of all big

Hi Smiff,

One thing you should watch out for is that although this TV has "HDTV 1080i Ready" stamped on the top left of the cabinet, it is not HD Ready.

It will not display a 1080i or even 720p signal from either a Xbox 360 or an upscaling DVD player. You will get a blank screen.

I know this from experience, my father in-law had one and in the end got an exchange out of currys for mis-selling him the product as it doesn't do what it says on the tin. So to speak!

Samsung are also well aware of this issue.

Don't say I didn't warn you.............

Dan
