Question Purchase help for new projector setup

Hi,

I want to point out that I’m not very technical when it comes to AV products so please bear with me and apologies for asking any obvious questions!

I’ve just had the attic refurbished and have been looking for a home theatre projector.

I’ve attached a very poor diagram of the room with some measurements to provide a better perspective

The electrician has put some speaker wire behind the skirting for the front and rear speakers which I am yet to purchase. I didn’t go for anything fancy so some unbranded speaker cable from a local electrical outlet, I know I will need something half decent for the video cable etc

Shopping List…

Hitachi TX-200 Projector / Sony HS60 (not sure)

Possible List Items….

Pioneer SV410 Speakers - http://************/q9dqo

What I require…

I need a DVD player and I’ve been told that I also require an amplifier but not sure why.

I also require a screen, I’ve had a brief look at the fixed type screens for the time being I could just use the wall and align the picture before deciding on the screen size. According to the projector calculator at projectorcentral.com I might be able to achieve a 223cm screen size from 4 metres’ ish.

Could someone please lend a hand in determining as what to purchase?

Possibly want to have it all mounted on a shelf at the back of the room just above the sofa...

Thanks in advance,

Imran

hi Imran

can't help much with the other questions (though i know someone else who reads this thread will be able to)

you need an amplifier as your volume control, and to boost the sound level given out by the dvd player

as for placing the projector, if it was me with your setting, i'd use a tv wall mount (the type with a swingarm and approx foot square plate - normally for a tv) as this seems to be better suited to giving loads of breathing room to the pj wherever it may vent in and out...this'll also let you swing the unit back to the wall to keep it safer when not in use

Hi Imran

As mentioned already... you'll need an amp unless you get an all-in-one system that includes player, amp and speakers built in. The 2 projectors you mentioned are very good.

Personally i don't think these all-in-one systems give the best sound quality - unless you are spending £000s on it.

When looking at projectors you will need to check the throw distance of the projector of choice . If you are ceiling mounting your projector this will not be an issue as it can go anywhere, but if you are floor ounting or placing the projector at the back of the room this may provide some issues. Some projectors can can produce a smaller image from a long distance, others can't produc a large enough image from a short distance.

What budget do you have for the rest of your system? You would be missing out on a lot if you didn't budget say.. £120 for a DVD player, £300 for an amp and around £500 - £600 for speakers.

for projectors also have a look at the Themscene HD72 which is very opular on these forums and pricewise is in the middle of teh Hitachi and Sony (and can also be found with a free screen and ceiling mount)
