Thumbs down 4805 Fault - Replacement?

Hi, Bit worried about 6 month old Screenplay 4805.

Decided Id clean the filters... when i was reconnecting the power lead (projector end) it made an electrical fizz and the hosue lights flickered. The units power button was off, but the socket was on.

Sure enough upon turning the projector off the light went green, but no fan or bulb kicked in. It cycled from making no noise, then trying to kick start with a faint whirring - nothing happened.

Packaged the unit to send off, however decided to give it a try a couple of days later and it worked perfectly.

Im very surprised its not a frazzled power board / supply or similar but just like to check what it might of been - a fail safe? Dont want to find the power supply fails when my warranty is up.

Thanks, Andrew

hi Andrew

best not to disconnect live cable at projector end, although there should be no difference this way, you can add a kettle cable (iec320 male one end, female the other) and use the connection between this added cable and the one that goes to socket/ups as your means of physically disconnecting unit from power...that way you can have a good grip of both parts and quickly and neatly make or break the connection

best to not mention your problem to infocus, not honest i know, but say that you switched plug on at socket, with all other connections in place (which is what should happen !)

could be something blown that still allows some of the noises and lights to appear normal

good luck

matt

thanks for reply matt...

Sorry i didnt emphasise it is actually now *fully operational* again. It just took 3 days to decide to return to operation from its non startin state.

Just wondered if anyone knew whther it was some built in fail safe, or if i should still get it checked?

well that's better but also worse !

sounds like you got away with it...but infocus are really tightening up their overhead thesedays, and will do their best to make some money from you if you send the unit to them without a "real issue"

you may have to hope that the unit now performs flawlessly, or blows big time as either of these situations may now be your ideal outcome

Just had a squint at two service manuals sony/panasonic and both have custom IC`s that will not allow the PJ to start after an "abnormal event" until the main capacitors in the power supply have drained below a certain level, a number of PC power supplies exhibit the same behaviour to avoid frying the motherboard/LSI`s within.

If you had tried restarting your PJ an hour or two after your first attempt it would probably have started.

IMHO your PJ should be fine
