Thanks: Gave 142, Got 270 | PJ in a corner. Is this setting possible?
Dear friends,
my PJ is close to its death, there is a brown diffuse shadow in the center of the image. I have already reseted the lamp few months ago, and now it seems it is time for a new one... But I don't think it is worth buying a new lamp, so I am looking for a new PJ. This way, for a little more money, I can upgrade to better quality (my PJ is a second hand Sharp xv-c20e, two years with me).
Anyway, my question is a technical one... My room is 6.2x3.5 m2, and after the experience with my present PJ, there are some things I would like to change. Right now, the screen is on the 3.5m wide wall, we sit in the center of the room, and the PJ is hanging from the ceiling, about over our heads. The noise is quite annoying, but it is the only way... I would like to install the new PJ in one corner of the room, as far as possible from the seating position (also for aesthetic reasons), but I don't know if there is any unit with the optics needed to do this. I have looked few reviews and specifications, and none suits my needs.
I am not an expert, but it seems I need quite some optical zoom, and a lot of keystone correction (both vertical and horizontal, because I want to install it near the ceiling).
Of course I would also like a better screen resolution and image quality, but I think that will be granted, given my present PJ...
Long writing, short message... Any hints? I tried to use the search utility of projectorcentral.com, but it did not help...
Regards,
Alberto

Using keystone correction badly affects picture quality and even the manufacturers advise not to use it unless you really have to.
If i were you i would get a quieter PJ such as the Infocus IN72-76 (£900-£1690) range or the Themescene Optoma HD72i (around £1300) which are all very quiet PJ's.

Thank you very much... You really believe it will be quiet enough? BTW, I have just read that the Infocus service is not very good...
I have also found that there is a "lens shift" function, both vertical and horizontal (e.g., in the Panasonic AE900). Maybe that will do the trick without affecting the image?
I think I will have to look in the second hand market, because I do not want to spend so much money...

Lens shift leaves you with an uneaven focus.
Just go for a PJ which makes less noise. I'd choose PQ over a little fan noise any day... |

I think I will have to look in the second hand market, because I do not want to spend so much money... | I'd recommend the Sanyo Z4. It has the largest(?) lens shift horizontally as far as I'm aware. I think the Z3 maybe similar and can probably be picked up quite cheaply now.
I have the Z4 and have a large horizontal offset so that I can put it out of sight from my bay window. I'm very happy with the picture and the noise level isn't high at all. I hope this helps.

Hello,
thank you for your advice. I have been looking at the Z4 and Z3. The specs are quite similar, but the Z4 is almost 500 euro more expensive... The Z3 is under 1k euro, which suits my budget nicely. Moreover, I will not buy yet, I always keep an eye in the market for few months before, do a little more research in the final candidates and then take a decision. Up to now, I am very satisfied with this method, although it is a pain to wait for "so long"...
According to your advice I should be looking for a quiet PJ with flexible installation possibilities... And this under 1k euro! I guess in any case it will be better than my present PJ, which was released already in the previous century I am still open to other suggestions in this direction!
One additional question... Since all these PJs have this HDMI connection, will I be wanting to get a dvd player to replace my Denon 1400? I am afraid each change in my equipment leads me to the next one...
