Thanks: Gave 2, Got 2 | Infocus 5700 strange on screen flash problem
Any one seen this problem before -
I've had an Infocus 5700 for approx 2 years now. Love the pic and quietness, but the lamp is now at just over 2200 hrs so I need to change it, as it may be a bit too soon to jump to an upgrade just yet IMO.
Anyway I digress. I get what I can only describe as a strange white, on screen flash every 30 minutes or so. It only seems to affect certain parts of the screen and its only visible for approx a 10th of a second. Not the end of the world, but its just distracting and its happened for at least the last 1000hrs or so. Its like I'm getting a weird bit of interference or static build up somewhere.
It doesn't seem to be linked to any particular source or input - SKY+,DVD,360 / S-Vid, Component or DVI.
Anyone out there seen this before, or have any suggestions as to what it might be?

is it happening because you need to zero the lamp hours ?

yes i know it probably wont help, but if your lamp hour counter is not zeroed yet, you can't rule it out

Sorry, I don't wish to appear rude, but why can't I rule that out? How could this possibly have anything to do with the symptons I've described? Is it a known problem that I'm not aware of, or just a suggestion based on your own experiences?

it was just a wild guess, as no-one else had suggestions, i thought it was worth a mention, and worth a try...i think some projectors will misbehave or shut down with a high mileage bulb, you may well have zeroed it already, but you had not stated as much
i hope you get it sorted, and someone else may know and read your thread soon...good luck

The Infocus 4805 suffered from a lamp 'flash' due to a firmware upgrade which caused this problem. Did you updated the firmware around the time you started noticing the problem?
Maybe your power supply is having a surge or spike which is causing this. Have you noticed anything else such as lamps or main lights doing the same thing?
Or it may well be the bulb itself. When florescent bulbs near the end of their life, they begin to flicker and pulse. maybe this is a similar occurence due to the bulb nearing the end of its life.
You could try using a surge protector to plug the PJ into, try changing the bulb or updating the firmware. The last is free, the first is a bit expensive and the middle is a heck of a lot to spend if its not the cause. In eco mode, the bulb should last for around 3000 hours. In normal mode that reduces to 2000 so if you use it on the brighter setting, the bulb may well be your problem.
Have a look on avsforums.com as they have a wealth of info on the Infocus Screenplay projectors

OK, thanks for the info. I've ordered the cable to do the firmware upgrade and I'll also start using a power filter/surge protector for a while.
I have a new bulb on order, although I'm only just over 2000 hrs, I do get an on screen 'Replace Lamp' warning at startup. Its bound to fail just when I've got a house full!
Do you know why the repalcement lamps are rated 2000hrs but the included one is rated at 3000?
I've always used it on low power, so may be I have a few hundred hrs left on it?

Oh btw, no it shipped with v1.7 firmware and I've left it at that as I didn't have the upgrade cable.
There is no mention of this problem in the firmaware history though. I'll have a go at upgrading it anyway, I guess you never know |

Anyone out there seen this before, or have any suggestions as to what it might be? | Funny you should post this, i am having the same problems with my 5700.
When i 1st turn it on it keep flashing white light on the screen every couple of seconds. The longer the unit is on the further apart these flashes get. After 1 hour it seems ok.
I have just mailed Infocus technical help to see what they have to say.

I'd really be interested in their reply and if you manage to get the bottom of the problem. Its weird how it only affects certain parts of the displayed image.
I've just upgraded to 7210, but am now looking to sell on the 5700 + a new bulb and would like the fault to be fixed.
The 7210 has the same chassis so fitted straight in. The problem hasn't happened with the new projector at all. Although that’s only been one nights viewing, I would still have seen it by now, so am pretty certain that the problem isn't with my setup/cabling etc
BTW - I did try a power filter and surge protector, no joy
How many hours are there on your lamp btw?
Please post here if you get do get a reply. |
