Laptop to PJTX200

OK due to my daily work duties, I have a Dell Precision M70 laptop, so decided to hook up to the pj this evening, setting the dualview option I can set a native res of 1280x720x60 for the pj and I'll sort out the fine tuning of pic sometime later,

Now I have a bunch of HD stuff 720p and 1080i, the 720p stuff as you would expect is spot on 1:1, but when I play a 1080i it resets the screen output to 1280x1024 and squashes it down, I cant find a way for the pj or the laptop to fill my screen the same way a 720p signal does can anyone offer some advice please ?

Also the pj output isn't a patch on the the quality of the Dell FX1400 go graphics and 1680x1024 panel, is this due to the colour output via vga of the laptop?, or have I missed a setting somewhere ?, on the whole the pj image seems less vibrant

p.s. I am using WMP10 and VLC

Hmmm

Your laptop wont be able to set a 1080 resolution. Thats 1920x1080 i think which is probably past its max res?

I'm using the vga output and the graphics card is a 256 meg 1400 quadro, goes over 2048 iirc, but I didn't want to move away from the PJ native res of 720

I'll try a 1920x1080 res and hope the pj doesn't scale down the 720 stuff

Regarding 1:1 pixel mapping - I have made a 720*480 alternate black-and-white lines picture encoded to MPEG-2 that should match my Hitachi PJs native resolution and I found out that the only setting I could get the lines to match exactly with PJs lines is when I use Zoom at 97 and overscan at 7...can you people with the TX200 check whether you can get exact pixel matching at 100 zoom...I tested from a DVD player over component so it may be doing additional overscan resizing (but not likely since the PJ should be getting the full as-is signal) ...I'll do a PC test with the same pattern as windows background, but if any of you fine people can try the same approach with both DVD and PC sources and report back the result...I find this a bit annoying since if I want 1:1 pixel matching I need to put up with a picture window that is smaller than the projected window and picture content is additionally cropped because there is still some picture that is hidden due to overscan of 7...thx!

BTW, Radioactive, you may be required to lower the res of your primary laptop screen to get 1920*1080 but I think it's achievable...I managed this with my Asus Pundit that has the built-in ATI 9100 AGP which is a rather old beast...if you have problems with playing 1080 HD stuff you may want to change the player software...I find PowerDVD work best for me with Window Media Player having some quirks...also you may want to check any option that lets you keep the aspect ratio...I must admit that I don't see how a player chooses to chage desktop resolution of its own accord (PowerDVD can do that but only when instructed to do so in the options)...
