Hoya HMC FL-Day filter

Hi everybody,

I'm planning to buy the Hoya FL-D filter to try on my Sharp Z201. I've measured the lens diameter & I got this measurement :
Outer ring to outer ring (outer diameter) = 60mm
inner ring to inner ring (inner diameter) = 53mm

Unfortunately these are not conventional filter sizes. Went to my local photo shops to try but they don't stock any Hoya filter. So now I'm planning to buy online.

If the Hoya filter size is say 52mm, does that mean 52mm outer diameter or 52mm inner diameter? (the Hoya has an elevated filter ring to hold the filter material). If it's the inner diameter, what's the total/outer diameter (with the ring)? I'm trying to decide whether to put the filter in or outside the lens ring.

Well, the Hoya filters are threaded but the z201 has no thread so you will need to attach it some other way. I would go for the 60mm and tape it on around the edge of the lens and filter otherwise a smaller one will not stay secure in the space inside the lens

I've bought a Johnson&Johnson cotton bud container & hopefully the lid may be able to hold the filter rings. Haven't really measure the lid but it looks doable.

You have to rebalance colours with an fl-day filter, which is normally in the realms of ISF calibration AFAIK.

I'm seeing green bias (albeit slightly) in the pics & the problem is the PJ doesn't have adjustment for green (only red & blue). I thought it's as simple as taking the excessive green off & just play around with the R & B adjustments .
Any ideas how to reduce the green bias? Does using magenta filter affect the colour balance too?

Sounds like it may work. I was thinking of getting an fl-day filter because, when set up correctly, can give you more contrast. Gary Lightfoot is the man to talk to about this.
