Infocus 7205 - New firmware out

Just noticed that v2.4 was released last week. Apparently it fixes an issue with losing ceiling settings and inverting colours (one of my 7205s went back because of that) but more importantly it improves 720p 50hz mode!

Interesting. Are you going to update it yourself, or take it in to a dealer?
It's a bit annoying you need the correct cable from infocus & a vesa terminal on your computer.

I will be DIY - no VESA terminal required, it is a GUI app now. The leads can be found on here or ebay. It is just good to see that Infocus are still bothering to improve this model.

GUI = Graphic User Interface = Posh wording meaning click this picture/icon/button to install!
and the lead, well if the 7205 has the same connection as a X1 its a USB to USB connection but the projector's usb is the square type rather than the flat ones on PC's (most printers use this type of cable so there is prob no need to buy a new one).

Thanks. The 7205 doesn't sem to have any USB of any type. Prpbably has to go via the M1-DA port?

Has anyone noticed an problems with the previous firmware upgrade? I believe it was v2.2. I have an issue with my fan speed and was wondering if this was a glitch with the firmware?

I've had two 7205's, original + recent warranty replacement. You will get occasional shifts in fan speed. I think it will change occasionally as it gauges how hot the unit is getting, but it should just be very occasional, probably twice during a film at the most, not all the time.

I haven't tried 2.2 but I am pretty sure the firmware doesn't control the fans (this is done via a board with temp sensors). One of my four had a habit of spinning up to max speed and down again quite a bit so it must vary on machines.

The cable needs to be designed for the M1 socket, there are two an analogue video and a digital video one. The official ones are called SP-DVI-A and SP-DVI-D I believe, but there are also Lyndy ones from places like Tvcables.co.uk for about £20.

What, is the connection to the computer? Is it just the USB part?

That's right, when upgrading you only need to connect the M1-DA and USB plugs.

The cables from Infocus at least (and probably the Lindy ones and any other 3rd party ones) have the M1-DA on one end and a USB A (normal laptop style) plug and either a DVI or VGA connector as well (as they are ultimately designed as a presentation cable).

The decision between the two is if you also want to make use of the cable as an adapter (i.e. DVI) or a second VGA socket. In my case I already have a 10m DVI to M1-DA cable so I wasn't fussed which upgrade cable I got.
