Benq PE5120 - Recall ?

Ive just been talking to a shop who is unable to get this pj from their supplier as

'After contacting BenQ they have indicated that this product may be recalled and replaced with a similar model. Although there is no further info at this time"

hmmm.....anyone else have some more information on this ?

Heard nothing more. Might be they are just replacing the 5120 and no longer manufacturing it. May not be any particular techical concern.

dunno

anyways, how do you find it yourself ? what size image do you project with yours ?

This is interesting. I rang BenQ 3 weeks ago about a dodgy connector on my PE5120. They took my details and told me to wait for contact from the service centre for loan/repair.

I ring every week but keep being told that due to the big fire at H Hempstead they are experiencing delays. Also told that they are waiting for PJ stock to arrive in order for me to have a loan unit.

If they are going to recall/replace then I guess its time to rack up those lamp hours.

i *think* its roughly 90" 16:9?

ill post pictures and exact measurements soon as i need ALOT of help with a screen.

ive been really impressed with it so far, especially considering i only spent 450ish (ebuyer) on it 6 months ago.

but yes, it does have its flaws.
i dont think its hd capable though?

im lost now, i thought the dvi connection made it hd capable?
but because its natively 480lines, it cant do 720 or 1080 lines without "downscaling"?

sorry if my terms are wrong.......!

Just got off the phone to Benq and they have no knowledge of a product recall for the 5120.

hd capable means it will accept a hd signal but will have to downscale it.
hd ready means it can natively display a 720p signal.

Really confusing terms. I wished the manufacturers would have chosen something different.

hmmm like I say, maybe the guy that emailed me really meant that the pj was being replaced, not recalled
