I thought they went out of business. From my recolections it was a reasonalbe DLP projector but suffered from the rainbow effect big time.

Colours are probably it's weakest point and it's anamorphic mode shouldn't be used.

It wasn't terrible, though

£1700 for brand new guaranteed probably isn't bad. But most would find the other (newer) projectors in the £1800-2300 bracket easier to live with.
Second hand - I wouldn't consider it myself.

Hope that helps.
Regards
Alex

You have confirmed what I thought.

Hello DRC,

The Davis SVGA DLP projectors are great as long as you use a HTPC / HCPC.

The internal scaler is poor, this is why people complain of poor colours and rainbow.

Use a HTPC and you will be happy, and should not see rainbows because of the increased 72Hz or 75 Hz refesh rates.

You might as well buy the DLS8 if you can find one any cheaper, that is a great projector when used with a HTPC.

Might be worth asking the same question on the other forum
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/

You will need an EVC to VGA adapter cable to get the best from a Davis projector.
If you need an EVC to VGA , mail me, I might just be able to find one

Good luck,

Mark.
