Is this the right Projector to go for?

Hi

I am just about to begin setting up a Home Cinema. Have a dedicated room with no windows which shuld be great.

The throw will be about 16ft (4.9M) and I will be sitting approx 12-13 feet from the screen. I am thinking that a 6ft wide screen will be plenty big enough for the room.

I have a very limited budget at present so am looking to spend £700 or less (I'm not "INTO" the whole HC thing yet so want to venture into it with as little money as possible and then, once I know I am using it often enough, will upgrade in a year or so to better PJ if I think I need to)

So...I have done some research and the Optoma H27 seems to offer a great combination of price/quality of pic. Question is should I consider something else and would DLP be the way to go or should I go LCD? It will only be for DVD viewing and no HD required.

Thanks, Gary

Welcome to the forums.

From looking at the screenshots of the H27 I would say its a cracking projector with fantastic images.

What you should look at are the following:

1. Are you affected by DLP rainbows?
2. Have you worked out the pic size from that distance using a screen calculator? (find your projector at www.projectorcentral.com and click the calc link)
3. Have you costed in a screen + cable runs
4. Do you already have the audio side worked out? if not then the Panasonic SCHT530 is a nice DVD + speaker setup.

I have demoed the Infocus 4805 (DLP) against a Sony HS50 (LCD) and the 4805 produced a more solid deeper 3d image but the rainbows effected both me and my girlfriend to the point that we couldnt ever have bought it. She said we could buy it and she wouldnt move her head lol and thats over the HS50 and her own opinion.

Thanks!

Thanks for your replies. I was using the screen calcs on the Optoma site which actually gave me a bigger screen but then soemone said the size should be about half the distance you sit from screen! Your opinion?

I actually live in Lower Parkstone up the road from you. Where is a good place to go and get some demos as I have never seem a DLP system to work out if rainbowing affects me!

Thanks, Gary
