New Ae900 // Dvi-d to hdmi no signal

Finally my ae900 is here... 1st impression... Lovely...
and I ain't got all of it.
I just went through the scart. from a cheap dvd player. and not on a screen, just on the wall!!

I want to feed it from my laptop, running nvidia 6800 256Mb, and having a dvi-i output.

I do have a dvi-d to hdmi 2m cable, btu I did not manage to get any picture...
after that I used the same output converted to vga to feed my crt desktop screen (to check that the port is working), and finally found the s-video cable to get the picture. Unfortunately I did not have a vga cable to test.
Tommorow I'll plug the xbox 360... I am hope I'll be ...shocked!!

What could be the problem for not getting dvi-d to hdmi signal?
the cable? the laptop configuration (it gets a lil narrow with resolutions and refresh rates)? any ideas?

thanx

Ps when in s-video I could see destop picture, and any kind of video pleying in power dvd... Not the images in windows photo!! was that having to do with the mode of the external monitor? cosz I am not sure is was set to identical...

When you used the DVI-D cable did you check to make sure the video card was outputting a digital signal and not an analog one? As DVI-D to HDMI Cables will only carry a digital signal.

and also check the resolution and refresh rate on the laptop. You wont get a picture on every res over DVI/HDMI

For testing sake set at 1280x720 @60 hz first (thats 720p)

these damn laptops are a leaving a lil for me to do.
it just detects and plays.
any idea how to control the output of the dvi port?
and my laptop screen does not "use" 720p but 1440x900. and there is no option for 1280x720 (native projector's).

do i need to find theatertek? or sth else...
thanx for answering

Ps have seen my 1st movie, 60inches, wall, scart and was really happy... cannot imagine it with digital, on a proper screen...

You probably need to get hold of a custom display utiltity so you can set the resolution to one the PJ will sync with

I used to use Powerstrip on my HTPC - Google it , its a free download and dead easy to use

well I did get powerstrip but when I ask for a custom resolution it says this isout of warranty and it might blow the lcd screen... It does notsound possible to me... but is it?

Or is that on the geforce 6800 menu? I cannot remember now...

but is it possible to destroy a 1440x900 native lcd setting resolution to 1280x720 60hz?

(how exactly do I change resolution in powerstrip?)

if you have the latest geforce drivers you should be able to select 1280x720 at a standard resolution AFAIK

If you have a custom res option in your Nvidia drivers options I'd try that first before using powerstrip.

The warranty warning is just Nvidia covering themselves. You'll be fine as long as you dont start selecting crazy res's and refresh rates. You can always back out wiht the nvidia drivers quickly anyway
