Question vcr tuner through PJ

hello.

can I get a Tv picture from an old vcr with one scart socket and coax in/out only, to PJ [liesegand 335] via sony dav-s800?
I've tried using phono leads put no success. would I be better off using a freeview box?

cheers

you should be able to. I used to run a sharp pj and fed it with scart to RGB inputs it depends on the inputs on the back of your pj. you can get scart adapters similar to the ones supplied with the PS2 but if youve tried phonos then this wont work. I take it the phonos on the back of the pj are the component inputs for connection to a DVD player?
My old pj had BNC RGB inputs and I had to have a lead made up SCART to BNC you may need to look into this. No pj will accept a coax feed from a VCR, as they are merely display devices.

From I'm being told you need to convert the vcr signal to a digital 1 with the use of a conerter box from someone like
js or a qed.

I take it you have the Liesgang DV-335.

As far as I can tell this unit does have a Composite Video Input which should work with your VCR - you require a SCART to 3RCA cable (usually Yellow, Red & White) between the SCART Out on the VCR and the Composite In on the Projector.

It looks like this projector is NOT equipped with a Component Video Input (Progressive or Interlaced) so your not going to get the best from your Sony DVD player - you'll need to stick with Composite Out there too.

Alternatively use an AverMedia TV Box9 to convert the 'Component' signal to a VGA (RGBHV) signal at 1024x768 and feed that 'progressive' signal into the Projectors VGA port (the TVBox9 has its own tuner so should simply things on that front).

See http://www.averm.co.uk/avermedia/ave...avertvbox9.asp

Best regards

Joe

Thanks Joe,
ordered adaptor. the pj has d-sub input for RGB but couldn't find scart to d-sub cable.
the dvd and pj have s-video connections would there be any noticable improvement using this connection? really I suppose I need to upgrade the dvd player can you get them with d-sub connections?

cheers

S-Video would give a better signal than composite, as composite, is about the lowest quality video signal you can get.

I doubt very much you'll get a DVD player with D-sub, I've certainly never come across one myself, although you might be able to get an adapter to allow the D-sub to take different signals if you do choose to upgrade your player.

Lektropacks have some D-sub to rca cables, these would take a component signal to a projector.

Obviously this won't help with your vcr, but it will get a better quality DVD signal should you get a DVD player with a component out at a later date. You could always buy a freeview box with S-video out (now you've free'd up that connection) and use that into your PJ, but you could just go on spending forever.

^^^
Those direct cables from component to vga only work with vga inputs designed to also take component, so you should check the PJ specs before buying one.
