Large screen projector

I am new around here and its my first post. I was browsing a few weeks ago Ebay and stumbled across an auction where a bloke was selling tips on how to assamble a diy projector.I ordered it but then did some search and as expected I was told to forget about the big project and buy a decent projector. I did some more googling and gathered a few useful tips.

Anyway it seems like most projectors (I never had one exept of some slides pushers long time ago) work best with screen sizes of around 6feet by 4feet or so.What i want is a projector that can throw a good picture on a screen or just a wall 3m by 2m. The distance i can beam from is max 4.2m. I found this usefull calculator at http://www.projectorcentral.com/proj...ulator-pro.cfm , which helps to find a projector by selecting a specific brand and model. It computes the distance from which you can get a decent picture. The thing is that I seem to fall short a meter or two with my 4.2m limit to get a good 3/2m picture on the wall. I tried a number of projectors by chance and all of them have pretty similar standards. You may ask why I want such a big screen, well why not. My question is which projector would fit my demand. Mostly i want to play games on it and the computer will be the main source of input.

I know that choosing a screen which gives a screen gain over 1 adds to the brightness and is a factor in selecting screen size but I would rather buy an expensive projector rather than expensive screen, though I am looking for a second hand, not expensive.

And finally i want to ask you what is your best screen size when playing games. Perhaps i want something that is not practical, but i really would look forward to beam onto full wall as long as image quality is fairly decent. It seems awsome.

Welcome to the forums.

With respect to screen size specifically the biggest influence is how far you plan to sit from the screen. For 4m I suggest you go for a screen width somewhere between 2m and 2.75m (the rule of thumb is to sit somewhere between 1.5x and 2.0x the screen width away).

2nd, otherwise it will be like sitting in the front row of the cinema, fine for short burts only. Also PJ are designed to be viewed at 1.5 + from the screen anyway, and if you sit closer than that you will see 'faults' (for lack of a better word)
