Killed my z4 already

Well this must be a record for me , had the z4 on for about 8 hrs today and the convergance has gone way out, by way out I mean by about 3mm just went over about 30min period. It seems that the red has gone to the right and the green has gone to the left , blue still appears to be ok, thought I was having serious vision problems till I noticed it was the pj , funny thing is its only on the right hand side where the focus was slightly out and the beige tinge was, gonna let it cool down and see if it goes back to normal in the morning, looks like it a bad batch as ukroadster has got one with convergance problems too. Major bummer .

Got it from jowetts on friday same place as ukroadster, today is really the first day Ive given it a hammering, funny thing is that the pj in demo room had the same focus problem as mine when we demod it, definately must be a bad batch. Oh well sh*t happens (usually to me) .

Thats not good , normally if something is not right it usally fails stright away or not at all , i've had mine on for two hours , but had some pc issues , spent more time messing about with pc than have with PJ

But am unsure about the projector in general , plus the lens has dust inside it , looks like it may of been run for a little longer than the test period

I was hoping to sit down and enjoy viewing a few movies today and playing some xbox , but it never happend.

Let me know if you go back down , if you fancy ,you co pilot and i will drive down in mine.

Here are some pics taken on my phone, quality is poor but you can clearly see the problem. Possibly the worst convergance problem ive ever seen and i used to own a tosh RPTV.

Fallwood,

That looks very odd.......... Just out of interest, in Paint create an image 1280x720, fill it with Black, then draw a single pixel wide White vertical and horizontal stripe, like a cross. If you display this on the projector you'll see pretty quickly what kind of convergence you've got. I hesitate to say it because you can see the issue in person and you should know what you're talking about, but could you have severe ghosting ? From your second picture it looks like it to me, but I can't really tell with the colours....

I can't think why the convergence would go out like that, other than getting a pretty bad bump - I assume you weren't talking literally wen you said you gave it a good hammering.....

How much (if any) lend shift are you using. and is the lens shift locked ? Have you tried resetting the lens shift ? On the Z3 the lens shift needs to be tweaked to get uniform focus, but I can't imagine it really causing the problem you describe - clutching at straws....

EDIT:

Just seen this "left side of screen is fine though." .................... check the lens shift.....

Hope you get this sorted out,

Sean.

Only thing i can think of is that as the pj has got hotter the panels have moved, I hope to confirm this in the morning when its cooled down, focus was still off with no lens shift at all so i cant imagine thats the problem. I actually sat and watched it go out over about 30 mins, thought it was the brandy at first .

I'm not being picky but your black image with the white cross - the white cross should be 1 pixel wide ( First go Image/Attributes in Paint, set size to 1280x720, fill with Black, View/Zoom set to the max, draw the white cross ) - that way you get to see the individual pixels in white on the black background when it's displayed and you'll see exactly how much out of kilter the individual pixels are................... but it's academic anyway, it looks like the thing needs attention one way or the other.

I've never heard of convergence on one side going out over a short period while it's being watched, and having the convergence fine on one side and out by that much on the other is also weird..........

You seem to be having little luck, and that's a bummer, it really is.

Sean.

Just done that and it appears to be 2 whole pixels out , you can clearly see a black line in between the white and the red.

Well as I suspected Its back to normal this morning, definately must be a heat issue, upon closer inspection I can see that the convergance is a tiny bit off , not noticable from where I sit but if I go right upto the screen I can just see it. Just having a coffee and then its back to jowetts.

Hi Fallwood

Yes looks like mine - mine is worse on the left side of the screen.

Do you get a cloured line of pixels down each side like me - I get a blue band down the left and a green band down the right and also a purpleish tinge along the bottom of the screen

You could be right about it being a bad batch.

I spotted the problem pretty much straight away and I am a bit of a newbie as far as PJ's go but learning fast.

Let me know how you get on and I will keep you updated once I have spoken to Ben at Jowetts.

Andy

Sorry that you are experiencing these issues guys, after such careful selection too.

Looks like the big curvy silver machine beckons.
